Filled up in Cannock on my way home from work this evening at 130.9 per litre!

I expected the fuel prices to increase slightly with VAT etc but that's just ridiculous! Is it just me or is that usual everywhere now?

Sounds about the going rate for super unleaded to me.

I think it was 127.9 or something in the local Shell yesterday, and Southampton is always a bit cheaper than average.

When I checked V-Power before Christmas it was 128.9 in Norfolk.

Note: The VAT rate doesn't increase to 20% until 4th January.

Well I assumed the garage had put the extra premium on to:
A) Make a bit of extra profit before the tax hike, and
B) "Minimise" the effect of the tax hike to customers by putting the prices up gradually.

Just read another post though and if it rises by a further 8p I'll just assume they're thieving barstewards ;-)

i feel like if there was some sort of protest that we would all be willing to take part. especially if we could all get on coaches and chip in for the fuel as the costs would be prohibitive.

anyone with a butty van would make a killing though.

122.9 for Super Unleaded here in Aberdeen smile (although that's from a supermarket; BP/Shell etc are charging much much higher). I'm going enjoy it whilst it lasts...

Down to 95 ron for me then. (not wanting to start that whole fuel economy / learning ecu / performance debate)

The motorway service stations really are taking the mickey these days aren't they? I remember when I first started driving you could pretty much guarantee they would charge a 4p/L premium over the prevailing price in their local area, whereas now it's usually more like double that.

I've already said this elsewhere today but I've found prices a bit strange lately - the Shell garage in Carlisle charges 8p/L extra for V-Power (always used to be 7) but the one in Hexham is only charging 2p/L extra (and hence their V-Power is cheaper than here even though their 95RON costs 4p/L more!).

It will get a lot dearer than that soon.

You have to pay to play.

In the same petrol stations they sell Coca-cola for £1.60 for HALF a litre. In comparison petrol is cheap.

I really don't get the issue with fuel prices. It is a purely optional cost. If you don't like the price then drive less, or drive slower, or drive a more economical car, or don't drive at all. If you have to drive because you chose to live somewhere with no alternative transport then you made that choice. Driving is not a right.

I can't wait for petrol to hit £5 a litre, it will make the roads so much better for a weekend hoon.
