I bought a car recently which has had a private plate fitted at some stage in its life. The plate doesn't mean anything to me and is the correct age for the car so there's no advantage to me keeping it. I had it valued at £400 by regtransfers who say they will provide me with a plate once mine sells. My question is can they give you a plate with an earlier letter to the year of the vehicle? It doesn't make a massive difference as my car is 17 years old, but when coming to sell it there could be an impact if I have to explain why it's on an older plate. Anyone had any experience of this?

I'm sure if you sell your registration then the dvla should be able to return the cars original reg to the car (if it is still available). This is how it works if you transfer a plate off a car.

You take the Reg off onto retention, the DVLA then assign it a new or previous registration.
