Door lock

I need a bedroom lock that you can lock from the outside with a key.

Is there such thing as a door lock where it stops the handle coming down instead of a metal piece pushing out to stop the door opening?

Want to do as little diying as possible.

A straight swap would be awesome, at the moment I have this:

No. You need a mortice or rim lock which will involve cutting a larger hole. A locksmith usually only charges around £70.

Your thinking of a privacy lock which you fit to a bathroom door, that has a snib lock ( a lever at the bottom of the handle) that locks the handle this only works from the inside.

As has been said already you need to fit a Mortise lock to lock the door from the outside.
You will have to buy new handles as they will have to have a keyhole in.

It does involve chiselling out a deeper mortise into the door to recess the lock, If your not confident in doing that get a carpenter in.

I encountered one of those yesterday. Was looking for little thingy to go across the gap, assumed it had broken, had pee then couldn't open door!

Little thingy! nah too easy

Its a common probelm..... many a time Ive been called out to a bathroom lock in!!
