in need of a cheap yet decent set of pans
Discussion
my current basic kitchen set up consists of a mixed set of victorinox blades. a le creuset griddle pan/skillet, a well seasoned wok, a quite frankly amazing asda 'the best' non stick thick gauge frying pan and a set of dunelm now flaky odds and sods saucepans.
im lookng for a decent set of new pans and prefer non stick. and have a £60 amazon voucher to boot.
i cant afford the circulons at this stage, and the set of£30 meyers didnt get very good reviews
then i saw the Tefal Expert Cook Cookware Set, 5 Piece Set. containing Hard anodized-
26cm Frypan
14cm Milkpan
16cm Saucepan with lid
18cm Saucepan with lid
20cm Saucepan with lid
cheap at £60 delivered and i prefer the hard anodzed finish rather than the red hot spot tat.
any thoughts or other recommendations on a budget

I've had these a year or two. The colour on the one I use the most has duled a bit but the non stick is fine. Dishwasher used fwiw. They have heat resistant handles and vented lids too. Cheapest option seems to be a set of 3 + a milk pan @ £71.50

You might get cheaper at Matalan or factory outlet shops who sometimes do branded pans. Not always cheaper though.

At the price these look great value and would last, as would the Le Creuset Tri-Ply range I use. http://www.kitchen-2-table.co.uk/korfu5pcepansetby...
If you're definitely going to use Amazon as you've got vouchers, then the set you've identified looks good value too.
I might be tempted to get a single large pan like this one, the SKK equivalent of which we use all the time http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raymond-Professional-Anodi... and pick up individual pans as I saw them.

This website is great and the pans are good. I have some of the circulon ones myself.

WHat do you pan experts think of these for the money? http://www.hartsofstur.com/acatalog/Raymond_Blanc_... (i'm thinking the 5 piece set)

They would be absolutely fine - Anlon is a good brand and they tick the right boxes. When it comes to saucepans, once you get above the "cheap and nasty" level, they are all pretty similar. Any well made one with a decently thick aluminium or copper enscapulated bottom will work perfectly well.

Would they be noticeably different from these ones do you reckon? http://www.hartsofstur.com/acatalog/Raymond_Blanc_...

Anolon Pro are good pans - I sold mine when I started using induction hobs, but tbh now I would favour the previous stainless set simply because I think non-stick on regular saucepans is more of a hindrance than a boon.As said earlier, saucepans (and griddles) are where you can save some money if necessary. Spend on frying pans, chef's pans, a good roasting pan and decent knives.

Those won't work with induction if you have it or are thinking about it in future. I haven't used anodised aluminium myself, but by all accounts it's pretty good. They probably will perform noticeably differently from the stainless "sandwich" type, but if anything probably slightly better - should be quicker to respond when you turn the heat up or down. Not sure about longevity though: I don't like non-stick coatings in saucepans as they aren't necessary and they will get scratched and wear over time.uncinqsix said:

I have owned a couple of the Anolon professional ones , for that money you really cant go wrong. Go for it you wont regret it.
If you want a couple of "shed" pans which are great quality, and you see on the TV all the times being used by pro chefs go here :

Excellent quality, lifetime, no quibble guarantee, come up like new whenwashed in the dishwasher.
The saute pan (mine has a lid) is the pan I use the most for curries, bolo, chilli etc
