Last year we bought a 22 inch lcd hd ready tv with a built in DVD player, and have been happy with it (apart from the sound not being spectactular and the lack of ability to plug it into the stereo amp to listen through the speakers)

Anyway, this morning it was like a blast from the past, turned it on and it took around 5 mins to even get the screen to light up, then a further 5 mins for a picture to appear.

Have spoken to the nice chappy at Sainsburys, and he agrees its goosed and so we are to take it back for a refund/exchange.

So now we need a little help, we need it to be around 22inch because of space constraints, obviously HD or HD ready, to have a DVD player (not really interested in Blu-Ray), at least one HDMI socket (we have a two way splitter doodah to swap between the x-box and the V+ box), and himself wants decent enough sound, and possibly the ability to connect it to the stereo with av cables.

Oh and not too expensive please <300 if possible.

Have looked around Sainsbury online, but not much to choose from there, have looked at Tesco, (are Technika any good? the point and click cameras were pretty good) and we want to avoid PC World/Comet/Dixons/Currys if at all possible, I have even looked at Argos, but all that takes my fancy seem to be out of stock.

So over to you guys, I know, a pretty tall order without the money to go with it, sorry.

Most 22" tellies with built in DVD players are all slightly suspect. Most reliable we've found to be Samsung LC22B470

I would avoid Cello and Teknika if I were you

Thanks for that, we have to have 22inch as there is really no space for anything bigger,(and no space for a serperate dvd player) anyway, after spending all morning scouring the net, I found a Hitachi one, that had all that we needed, Argos had just one left, so we took the dead tv back to Sanisbury, they didn't have anything to exchange with, so got the refund, went to check the one at Argos and decided that it would do. Now just need to hunt down a cable to connect it to the stereo!

Just a pair of red and white phonos will do the trick...Guess you know that!

Try an LG from Richer Sounds.
I got a 22inch with DVD last year. It has two HDMI + component, and use it with a V+ box & Wii.
Sound isn't great, but I have been very happy. It was about £240 with 5 year warranty.

We've got the Linsar from John Lewis. Does what it says.
Plus point is the USB connector - plug in a memory stick and it's a recorder.

I'm happy with it. (Although am dreaming of doing something with the audio)

Oh, and when you register it, Linsar send you a 2Gb USB stick - 'cept they sent me an 8Gb one!
Usual JL guarantee 5 years (except the DVD is only 2)

I was just about to post this same topic... Spooky smile

I presume all of the TVs in this category will be broadly similar in terms of specification, size, etc? I've seen the Sony Bravia model which looks quite nice for £230.

Yes they all do seem pretty similar however i have found:

Toshiba have a good picture, good digital receiver but very quiet speakers

Samsung have a great picture but the digital receiver isn't as good

Sony seems to be the best one i have bought so far.

Ive had some of the cheaper makes and one was very good from
Sainsburys but i have forgotten the make.

Im upgrading alot of the TVs at work so have bought approx 20 in the last 2 years.

Do you have a video camera?

Some can be used for pass through, straight into iMovie (I use an old Sony).

Last time I looked, the digitizing options were rather poor at the low end of the market.
