ARMA 2 - Any good?

As title really. I quite like games that make you think and plan, but arn't socomplicated that you have spend hours learning the basics. Would this game suit?

I bought the game when first out and looked forward to using it. But after many weeks of trying to get it to work on my PC is does not work. too many bugs and if you have 8gig or ram and a Radeon graphics cards you may get problems

I play it all the time - it's really good, and will definitely keep you thinking. The AI can be crafty buggers.

There are also LOADS of community created add ons available.

You need to have A LOT of patience.

I can't be bothered with single player - I hated the fact that the AI can see through grass/foliage and you can't, so lying down in long grass or vegitation leaves you blind. Yet if you stand up/crouch, you've got a big "SHOOT ME" sign above your head.

Multiplayer is FAR more fun. Although its mildly amusing to wait 5 mins for the chopper to turn up, hop on, 1 min for the flight to destination, get off, creep to the combat zone and BLAM, dead...

You just need to remember that this is no fast-action, bunny-hopping, burst fire frag-fest. Its slow paced, and many times a single bullet will kill you. It IS good fun though, and there's FAR more tension involved, as you know that there's no health regen...sneaking from building to building, peeking out behind walls...listening for gunfire/movement.

Operation arrowhead is far easier since there is none of that bloody grass in the desert
Looking on the forums and finding a few tweaks to the .ini to make enemies bullets less accurate makes the game more fun and probably more realistic considering in the standrd game they can hit you from 1000 yards out with an AK47!

I've hardly touched the campaign, I found some random mission generating mods that set up some awesome battles that are never the same twice

For those wondering if it is any good, Bohimia Interactive just released Arma 2 Free, which is more of a full game than a demo. Its basicly Arma 2 without the campain and high res textures but is fully compatible MP.

Anyone thinking of seeing what multiplayer is like should check this out
