Fascinating program this afternoon, ABTA and ABI reps on answering queries.

Some of the issues raised. Group of 16 going to fly on short break to German Christmas market. Outward flight cancelled by the orange lot. Refused refund of fares for return flight on basis that flight wasn't cancelled, and tickets sold as two singles. Bloke advised to go to airline passengers users council but unclear if airline is being unreasonable and hiding behind small print

Travel insurance industry not coming out of it well, quite a few people who had to abandon their holidays, have got refunds from airlines, or at least refunds promised, but travel insurance refusing to pay out on the rest. This has included holidays booked as packages.

Their argument is that they cover cancellation due to illness, death in family etc, they cover abandonment of the holiday due to delay >24h, but as the flights were cancelled without any delay this is not covered.

Snake oil salesmen. Very few policies would cover this loophole apparently.
I can see a few court cases / complaints looming.

Lot of people being told they will not get any money until after two to twelve weeks. Seems as if airlines are required to refund within 7 working days, and ABTA members then pass it on within 5 working days, but outside that not looking good.

I'm going to have the fun of trying to extract money from RyanAir shortly.

Our flights back from Berlin were cancelled meaning we had to get a hotel for a night, pay for another night in a hotel then fly back to the wrong UK airport and get a train to the correct one.

I'll be giving them 7 days then will issue proceedings against them.
