I'm about to buy a Freelander XEI, 54 plated. It has 49,000 on the clock and it's petrol.

Should I expect the head gasket and camshaft to need replacing asap?

If and when done what else should I be aware of - it is a good price?

Regards

We've got a 2000 petrol Freelander with 150k on the clock. No headgasket issue with it at all. Not everything you hear down the pub or on internet forums is accurate. Some is exaggerated into fact and the purveyors won't be swayed in their 'informed' opinions.

It may be worth having the camshaft belt changed sooner rather than later if there's no evidence of it being done recently. The later Mk1 Freelander were pretty well sorted with all the foibles of the earlier cars eradicated and the petrol versions make a tempting proposition.

Thanks GKP - sorry for late response - still in the market and your advice is much appreciated.
