Maybe - I'm still running both Spotify Premium and Napster at the moment to work out what works best for me

Search interface on Spotify is not as good as Napster IMO

I found this: http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?t=17893

Seems a decent comparison of both.

Considering that I have had no access to Napster for over a week, I will and probably lots of others, be cancelling my subscription and changing to Spotify. How reliable is their service?

Interesting - there's been quite a lot of discussion about the Napster outage on the forums.

As I'm new to spotify via Sonos I can't say yet (been fine so far). What I will say is that if you do experience any issues with Spotify, Sonos support have a sw patch which appears to have fixed the problem for those who have mentioned it.

I hope it works well tomorrow night!!!

I've had a few emails from customers that we have sold Sonos systems to. Called Napster today and they confirmed that there has been an issue since Christmas Eve. The system in our shop and mine at home is still playing up.
The woman at Napster did say they would be giving a free month to subscribers. What hacks me off though is that there is no mention of any issues on their site.
Which forums have you seen discussion on the subject?

Just seen this .....

Dear Valued Sonos Customers.

Please be advised that we have been informed by Napster that during upcoming peak holiday periods Sonos customers accessing Napster’s music service may experience browse, search, Album Art failing to load, and/or tracks skipping in the queue. In addition, it is possible for periods of time Napster on Sonos may become unusable.

We consider this behavior to be unacceptable and inconsistent with the high standards to which we hold the operation of Music Services on Sonos. We are working with Napster to resolve these conditions and return the use of Napster on Sonos to the levels of performance our customers expect. Unfortunately, these goals will not be met in time for this holiday season.

We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to our customer service management team.

Sincerely,

Sonos Technical Support

Copy of email from Napster FYI

We are aware that a number of our customers have been experiencing difficulties accessing Napster through Sonos and Logitech devices during this holiday season. These recent issues are below the standard of quality and reliability that we expect for our service, and we are working diligently with our partners to solve these issues as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we apologize for the inconvenience and want to thank you for your continued patience by adding a free month of service to your subscription. No action is needed for you to take advantage of this complimentary extension, it will take effect automatically.

We appreciate your continued patience while we make the necessary changes, and are looking forward to providing an improved service experience as soon as possible for our customers using Napster through Sonos and Logitech devices.

Thank you for your understanding, and as always, thanks for listening.

- Your friends at Napster

They're my friends!!!!

I am also a Spotify user on Sonos. Only signed up a few weeks ago having had a 28 day trial with Napster. The search on Napster was better on Napster, but I was attracted to the higher bit rate of the Spotify service, not sure how much difference this makes in real terms. However, I have noticed that the Spotify service can drop out at peak listening times. Tracks will not play or with only partly play, has anybody else experienced this?

Question: How do you save / organise your Spotify music on the Sonos software? I want to create playlists and collections of my Spotify music. I only seem to be able to create a 'Sonos Playlist.' Do I have to use the Spotify desk top client software and then view it from Sonos?

You can't organise your Spotify on the Sonos. You have to use an iPhone/iPod or a PC.

I use both services. Have kept Napster due to their 'Top 100' / Genre / Etc. lists which Spotify don't have yet. Makes it easy to browse for new music without knowing the artist etc.

If Spotify improve that then Napster are out.

Also - the Wolfgang's Vault service is well recommended if you like old(er) live music.

Thanks for your reply.

So if I want Spotify playlists available on Sonos I need to create them on my Mac (or PC) desktop client? And then access them from the Sonos software to play them - on the Sonos?

Used Spotify all last night and it worked like a charm all night - not a single drop out. Used several internet-based playlists on shuffle mode. I reckon if it's all fine and dandy on a night like NYE (peak user time?) then it will be ok at other times. biggrin

I have now dropped Spotify from my Sonos as I coudn't get it to be stable. Napster seems to work and definately has a better search function. It's shame as Spotify is supposed to give a higher bit rate.

I've had a Sonos system for a while and started out with Napster, ultimately cancelling my subscription as it was so unstable. Unfortunately Spotify also seemed unstable.... However there is a specific software patch from Sonos for users having problems - it might be worth opening a technical ticket with Sonos (or whatever the expression is) for them to take a look at your network. Sonos technical are very good and eager to help.
