Well it might fit in well with the other cars in my "wedge" collection, but I am having second/third thoughts, let alone what I would say to the war dept!

I was a little doubtful about the car at first mainly because of the mileage but also a complete lack of info about the chassis. However there weren’t many 350i FHCs in white with a claret interior and your reg number check confirms it. I bought the car from HHC and was about the sixth owner IIRC. It was a high spec car with full leather, air con, sunroof, PAS and a very fancy alarm system - I could operate it whilst sat in the pub behind a window.
Chassis was fairly rusty when I bought the car. I knew that before purchase but just ignored it. The years of Banff ownership had taken their toll. The twice yearly trips from Banff to Harrogate for servicing were impressive dedication.
The engine was good and the car felt quick. It could achieve high speeds and cruise better than a drop head. Despite its 89,000 mileage regular servicing at HHC throughout its life (IIRC they sold it four times) had kept the whole car in good order. There were no rattles from any part of the car. It was a standard series II 3528cc engine and will have had reasonably close to the claimed 197 bhp.
The exhaust has the XJ6 tail pipes so that they were wider apart at the rear with silencer boxes over the half shafts. The radiator was blocked and was replaced. The wheel spokes were painted white.
Sadly one evening I didn’t slow down enough for some cold weather and spun the car on some ice a few miles after the Cat and Fiddle road. That bent the exhaust. And kissed all four corners twice as I said hello to a stone wall; the rear window shattered and landed all over us – the pieces were not sharp. It was wedged on a slight mound in front of the wall. The fluids were still in the car so together with the owner of an old clubhouse nearby we pushed the car onto the road and drove it home, half a mile away.
A great pity for such a special car. The car was stored at Harrogate for about six months whilst the insurers argued with HHC; I got fed up well before then and bought another TVR after two months. Almost buying a BRG 350i FHC which had been fitted with a 390 engine – I wonder where that car is now. The insurers finally settled with a good settlement including a very nice storage cost for HHC. I was contacted in about 1997 asking whether the 68,000 mileage was correct. Seems to have shrunk even further to 44,000 now, less than half of what it should be. Someone also smashed the windscreen on the way.
Good luck.
