According to my local paper (accord what degree of wieght to that you see fit) the gent caught in Staines with a laser jammer was cautioned.
Caution, a formal process where you accept you have committed an offence and are warned as to your future conduct. No court, no costs but it is recorded and can be (is) brought up in court in any later case as part of your criminal record.
This case therefore creates no sort of legal precedent.
You might speculate whether the Police offered a caution to avoid a contested case they might well lose.
