I was standing outside having a late cigarette last night and noticed that my bonnet badge has lost the entire BMW logo and is now nothing but a chrome disc on the bonnet.
I'm not sure what could have caused the paint to flake (cold weather possibly), but there is now no logo at all. Has anyone every replaced the badge and if so, is it a straightforward job? I'm considering taking it to Vines and getting them to fit a new one, but I have no idea how difficult this would be or whether they can just re-apply the logo on the one that is currently on there.
Bit of a strange one I know, but I have absolutely no idea how this would have happened and it hasn't ever happened on the other models I've owned.

2.99 on Ebay easy job just done both badges on the 635
Are the badges easy to remove (as in the actual chrome disc)? The rear seems to be fine. I'll check out Ebay and see what I can find. Knowing you can get them from Ebay for a few quid, I wonder how much BMW would charge for a new one?CypherP said:

Knowing you can get them from Ebay for a few quid, I wonder how much BMW would charge for a new one?Sometimes you just pull out one of the slatted grills and attack the self taping nuts that hold it on with a thin deep socket - fiddly!
On the E46 there are no self tapping nuts or anything like that to worry about.
The badges are held on by two tapered pins molded on the back at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions that wedge themselves into two plastic grommets fitted to the bonnet.
The only thing you should have to replace is the badge itself.
The way to remove the badge is to get a slim, flat bladed screwdriver, wrap the tip well with some insulation tape to protect the bonnets paintwork, then you very carefully slide the screwdriver tip underneath the edges of the old badge and gently prise it upwards. There may be a bit of resistance to move at first but it will come away.(Be careful not to slip with the screwdriver!).
To fit the new badge, simply line up the pins with the grommets and press down firmly with your thumbs over the pin positions (i.e, the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions, and the badge will wedge itself in.

Give these guys a shout, I used them for new badges on my E39. They sell genuine badges and a fair bit cheaper than a dealer...

Also try using a credit card to get the old badge off.

I got 2 from eBay, although not this seller for £3.50 each including postage. Wasn't expecting much but when they came they felt the same as what came off and had the same stamping on the back. Use the flattest item you can to remove the badge, i tried a flat screwdriver but it wasn't flat enough, ended up using a nice flat knife.

Cheers for this. After looking at that eBay link, I've bought 2 from that guy. Seems genuine and has some good feedback. If it lasts 6 months, I know I have a spare and was cheaper than getting one for £16!I got 2 from eBay, although not this seller for £3.50 each including postage. I wouldn't recommend this badge. I bought the same for my last BMW and it looked naff and plastic (because it is) and it was obvious that the coloured bit was just a sticker (and not even on straight). It also didn't fix in place securly. I got 2 from eBay, although not this seller for £3.50 each including postage. I hated it so much i went and bought one of the official BMW ones off ebay which look far better.

He has a refund policy so if it comes through and is naff, then I'll send it back the same day and get my money back.

Did you buy from this seller? I read the description a few times and have looked at previous comments and feedback and all seems to be good. The photo looks to have plastic film on the front, so doesn't look incredibly shiny.

Not from this seller, it looks like the same type of badge from the markings on the back and design on the front. I assume they are cheap copies and not actual bmw ones. The sticker on mine hadn't been put on properly so there were lumps like on it like the one in the auction. The genuine bmw one had raised lettering. I picked up a used genuine one for under a tenner.
If you got a good cheap one I guess it would look ok from a distance, close up mine just looked crap.

I cant comment on this particular seller, but mine both came with a protective cover on that just peeled off. Hopefully that's what you can see.
It certainly looks like it. What were the quality of yours like? I've had a search and the back of the genuine ones is different so clearly immitation. But, there seems to be a large number of people who have ordered with no complaints. I'm hoping that this isn't too cheap looking. Colours and sizes seem to be the same and providing it doesn't stand out as looking cheap and nasty then hopefully should be fine.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

ks, I've gone and bought 2 from this guy based on the information he provided and the photos look more like the protective film on the front of the badge.
