CLK 55 AMG - Talk to me!!!

[Four Litre]

Looking to move on from my S4 and need 4 seats, always liked the CLK 55 AMG but wondered if anyone had any experience of them. Obviously I need to book up a test drive but is there anything I need to look out for - I used to have a C320 petrol but as nice a car as it was, the drive was fairly ZzzzzZZzzz.

Anyone have any experience of these - prob looking around the 15-18k mark so wouldnt stretch to a 63.

It is not as good as the BMW M3 which is cheaper to buy and be the same to maintain, run and insure.

There are boot seal issues IIRC.

I've had mine since new - in 2003. Fantastic car. Loads of power and great fun. I have spent an average of just under £3k per year on maintaining it - it eats tyres but have not found any car to beat it in terms of utility/pleasure.

It depends what you are looking for, really.

It the recent C63 vs M3 test Evo concluded that the M3 felt like it had a V-tech motor in comparison to the AMG. All revs and no bottom end.

The big V8 Mercs are all about shedloads of accessible torque, not trimming 0.01 s or your ring time because you can rev to 16 gazillion rpm.

Horses for courses but I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. They are both great at what they do, they just do different things.

Plus, as no one knows what they are, you won't get numpties trying to race you off every set of lights.

Fair point. The AMG cars have a special charm.
