Why do people steal useless cars

Clearly there is no real news, so the BBC website is reporting about some tv presenter who has been burgled.

One item taken was a Vauxhall Zafira. But why?

Because a Zafira can still be broken for parts or exported. No one wants a Zafira but some people would rather have one (whole or in bits) than a few quid, for whatever transportation reason.

There are plenty of people in the market for practical family wagons. Easy money for cloners I would imagine.

Funnily enough there was a Zafira stolen from my street a while back.

Neighbours have the CCTV footage - they ignored my GTA, neighours BMW Convertable, a couple of newish Mercs and went straight for the Zafira. Is there a need on the black market for Zafira parts?!

Probably worth a lot broken up, not easy to do much with complete cars nowadays I guess.

Which of the cars do you think
a) was the easiest to break into
b) was unlikely to have other security (tracker etc.)

Quite often it's just scrotes who want some anonymous hack to drive around in and dump somewhere.

Someone after a decent car will more likely do the right checks, someone looking for a cheapish family wagon is less likely to do that. Easy £2.5k or difficult £10k.

useless cars are normally stolen because they are required for a particular purpose and they are discreet. once used they are torched. a friends crappy old fiesta was stolen once for a ram raid in another town a few miles away, once they were away form the shop htey transferred the stuff and set the festa on fire....

2 reasons I see.
1 - If its a common (zafira) then they can put new plats in and will just blend in to all the other crap on the road.
2 - Parts are still expensive so will easily be broken for spares

yup, and the typical buyers wouldn't spot a lemon at 5 inches.. so shifting a cloned car will be easier than with an enthusiast car.
