Hi peeps..Gave the car a clean as im hoping to go to the kent meet on sunday...Accidently knocked the light switch and the headlights popped up and as i turned them off only one went down so i turned them on again one went up and one went down and now the passenger side wont come up again...Got underneath and twiddled with the adjuster then the light popped up even with switch off and then down again..Done that a couple of times but it still wont pop up with the other one..Ive checked fuses and relays i think the switch is knackered as when i wiggle it my dash lights go on and off..Any ideas please..Many thanks..mark

You certainly don't have a lot of luck with your car.
When you say you wiggle the switch, which switch is it? The main light switch in the switch panel or the indicator/ head light flash switch?

Its nothing, she's just winking at you. smile

Check your relays and diodes. Next check your ground. Mine did that for a little bit but fixed itself with a jiggle on the diode. If all else fails just convince yourself your car thinks your cute!

Change the diode and relays if that fails then change the switch. The diode is the cheapest thing followed by the relays, the switch is easy to do, but you have to find one.

If the sides and one light is working it's more lkely to be the relays or fuses than the switch. You might find they start working if pulled and replaced.

Lol - I was thinking the same thing! From experience with all things electrical it's either the switch, connection or the earth or any combination of the 3.

Cheers mate..I think i will order one..some of the pins are missing and there are two red wires in one going into the plug..one goes into a plug that isnt connected to anything and im sure something is missing from my console..I have..Fan..Hazard..lights..fog and one that had a toggle switch that has been cut?..The square hole has nothing there..not sure whats missing..Also the stalk/high beam flash on the steering column only works when pushed forward and not back..Bit like my washer stalk..I think someone along the line has made a right pigs ear of it..Many thanks,,Mark

On the cig lighter, the solid black should be earth (all earths are solid black which doesn't help because on the early cars all the wiring was black, with tiny coloured sleeves slid on to indicate circuit function. Sadly after 30 years most of the rubber sleeves have perished and fallen off or are so discoloured you can't tell red from brown etc. so can be a bit of a hassle). So the black/white SHOULD be positive.

The black 'octopus' thing contains a small bulb: the tentacles are fibre-optic strands that take the light to the rears of the switches to illuminate the legends. Bulb is an odd size as I recall: small threaded base but a big globe lens. Not much light output anyway which is why even when it's working you usually can't read the switches.

The fact that the headlamps are lit and one pod is up suggests that the fault lies with the pod motor that isn't rising - probably one of the connectors to it, or the internal switch or diode. Have a shufty at this really useful website (which is entirely non-profit-making, unlike some people's on here, the guilty know who they are wink)...
