Camera from USA

Hello, I am thinking of buying a Canon 550D and see that they are for sale here much cheaper if they originate from America or Japan.
Can anyone tell me if there are any pitfalls in buying, say a Rebel, from an online shop based in the UK?

Canon camera's warranty is only valid in the country purchased (but not the lenses), and you MAY have to pay tax when you bring it into the country.

Thanks. The camera is being sold by an online shop in the UK. Do you know if the battery and charger are usable with our electrity supply?

It will come with a us style plug. All you need is a uk plug with a standard fitting on the other end.

I have just bought the 550 with EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS for $700 from this place,

Mine is refurbished but looks like it has never been out of the (non-original) box before. Already been very impressed with it and when comparing it to my MIL's Rebel it is far better. And, she paid more for her rebel and lesser value lens than I did for my set up.

I have looked at the power cord and it is a standard figure of 8 so can be easily replaced. I checked the charger and it is rated for US and UK.

I should mention that I'm in the US so don't know about shipping to the UK.

You might want to try and contact Kerso, he imports stuff and then sells it from the UK, he gives you a proper receipt so the warranty is valid here.
You'll get hold of him via the talk photography site.
