2000 Fiat Punto 1.2 ECU Swap

Hello

A friend of mine has a Fiat Punto and the ECU has broken. I have told him that he should just get a used one of eBay but he says that his Garage has told him that he needs to get a new one.

Who is in the right? If anyone can help me with this I will be most chuffed.

Not entirely sure, but I have a feeling that he'll need the keycode box too - the ECU is 'mated' to the keycode and can't easily be cleared

This also means you'll need the keys and locks from the donor car

Check carefully before you buy - Fiat Forum or the Punto forum should be able to help

I had this happen to me once, the 2000 punto has this as a common fault. Just buy the correct one from e-bay and fit it yourself, it will take ten minutes at most.

No, I just bought the correct ECU (about £100) and fitted it, no codes or special tools. What pissed me off the most was it spent a week with a well respected (but not by me) auto electrian the week before who couldn't find a fault, but me and the internet sorted it out.

In which case, I stand corrected. I just know (from experience) that the ECU on all Fiat Coupes is linked to the keycode system. Easy enough to bypass on earlier models, but impossible on the later VIS
