Another Throttle cable thread!

Hi chaps, since the eurotrip have had problems with the old sticking throttle. Its been intermitent and have changed springs and stripped cleaned and re-greased the linkage. Took the cable out and it seems to work ok.

Just taken the car for a mid winter drive down the cul de sac and the problem was worse than ever. Had a look in the footwell and the cable is deffinetly sticking.

Have read former posts on here and the bible refering to cutting the throttle arm and re welding it about 10mm lower down to form a better arc for the pull on the cable.

I was wondering if it wouldn't be easier just to elongate the hole in the bulkhead so the cable comes through lower down.

The other question is, has there been any suppliers of the correct cable found recently?

Sounds a little "drastic" as sticking throttles aren't a particularly common issue ? If going to this much trouble think I would look at a complete re-design to use a still readily available cable ?

Just an idea but could it be a strand or two of the cable are frayed and causing it to stick ?

I believe new cables are no longer available from Ford or after market suppliers, second hand appear on Ebay occaissionally. I bought one for an automatic, cheaper and commoner than the correct manual one but think it could do in an emergency.
Could these become the next "Front Indicators" ?????

Have further investigated the elongated hole idea and didn't realise that the outer cable grommet is a friction fit in the hole. The cable when out of the car moves very freely. Considering taking the pedal arm out and drilling another hole lower down. It's a complete ba****d of a job, can not see the pin and it's hard work trying to remove whatever fixing it has.

Look at the exit point of the cable and you might see
The cable has cut a groove in the plastic end grommet, due
To the arc you describe. The cable could be snagging in that
Groove on the car but not when in your hand.
You might buy some time by rotating the cable outer so the groove is at 9 or 3 o'clock

That makes sense Kev. Typical tvr design! want to sort the underlying problem though. Winter job!
