About 4 weeks ago i was lifting/emptying a household dustbin (dustbin is the one outside which is up to waist height and is full all your rubbish not a small bin you hav in your house) full of dirt so it was quite heavy as I bent over to lift the bottom of the bin up to empty out all the dirt i felt somthing 'go' between my legs, like a tearing sensation and I immediatly thought "somtheting went then".

Anyway I stood up and everything felt fine so continued to work.

(I'm normnally a pen pusher so am not used to hard physical labour and don't ever go the gym - I'm 6ft and weigh 12.5 stone so am not over weight etc)

Over the last week and a half I have had the onset of a dull ach pain in my left area of the groin (same kind of pain you have when you knock your testicle) and I thought it was coming from my left testicle the pain is about 2-3 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being in agony.

Went to the doctors and she examined me and she said it was a groin strain (Doctor checked my testicles for lumps etc - all OK).

Just wondered if anybody else on here as ever had a groin strain and if so did you have an dull ache in your testicle and how long did it last for?

Sounds like what I had, a hernia, did the Doc check for that?

Possibly get it checked again - a couple of friends have suffered similarly from innocuous activities and it has been a strangulated testicle (can't remember the exact term) and in one case they said he was a couple of hours from losing it had they not operated immediately.

Yeah thats what doctor checked for a hernia - said it was a groin strain.

Just seems strange that the pain is kind the same as when you knock your testicle or squeeze it. - the ache senstation.

Yeah, that's what it felt like for me, as I'd dinged one of my nuts. My doc had a looksee and couldn't find anything untoward but suggested an ultrasound test, which I had and it showed I had a rupture.....he checked out the other side he found that was popped too. I'd not feel happy till I'd had the scan to be honest

If hernia is ruled out, google 'adductor' and 'torsion'.

A GP will be no use if it's some kind of adductor strain; you'll need a physio. It takes ages to heal as they aren't easy to really rest.

Torsion sounds less likely from the circumstances, but it's a good match to the dull ache. And, of course, you can't see in there to check.

Does it hurt more when someone touches it?
I have something similar but on the right (been living with it for 4 years) , I did have a surgery to eliminate a small cyst and that solved the issue for only a year, it then reappeared, Iybelieved the docs at the time when they were only looking for money.
In short, if it is a small cyst you can live with it.

It might also be a symptom of a form of sciatic-like pain; my back's fairly knackered and I often get the same thing when a disc bulges onto one of the nerves (I know it won't actually be the sciatic nerve, I get that too so know the difference!). It might be worth trying a few gentle back exercises and stretches (a few suggestions here) to see if that helps.

I've been a keen triathlete for many years and have a weakness in the groin.

Some groin strains can affect my testicles in a way that has made me convinced that I have a more serious problem - but it's always turned out to be nothing to worry about. I've been to the doctors a couple of times to make sure.

I too have a small cyst on my right plum that aches time to time and has done now for about 11 years, also I have a bad back mainly muscle damage from catching a motorcyle that fell of it's side stand, anyway my knackers now ache after heavy lifting and sitting around for extended periods of time and the docs cannot provide an explanation other than it is probably referred pain from my back. I have had two ultrasounds and seen three specialists, If the doc didnt feel anything then I wouldn't worry about it.

ilioinguinal nerve (sensory to testicle) runs through the region you have strained, perhaps it is also involved

anatomy, the key to everything
