The internal bulb on the microwave blew last week and wasn't immediately obvious how to change it. Tries the manual and it said I should call them and they will send someone out.

Seems outrageous really just to change a bulb.

Anyone ever changed one on a Panny that involves taking the outer casing off?

I've done plenty of Miele ones but not a Panasonic. The important thing to note is that a microwave holds about 500volts of electricity across the capacitor which feeds the magnetron, for this reason they are very dangerous to work on. Although they 'should' discharge, you are taking a risk, calculated or other if you go inside. I would see if you can either get hold of someone that's trained to do it or if you must have a go, leave it overnight unplugged, then when opening it discharge the capacitor using a pair of long nosed pliers before going anywhere else. Of course if you can get to the bulb from the inside none of this applies.

good advice there, just also bare in mind that the bulb will not be anything standard, it will be specific to that model.

Or wear rubber gloves?

Many thanks Lord F...not straightforward and therefore beyond my ken.

I'll phone Panny tomorrow and get myself ready for a fleecing.
