took the noble (2.5) out for a blast today good fun (forgot how many people point at it and grin!)

found that around 5,000 revs plus the engine would start to stutter and power would drop.

engine was running well if i short shifted.

think its the second turbo-is it set to run kick in at 4,500?

im not too sure if my fuel pump has been upgraded or prehaps turbo has been damaged any ideas?

would a rolling road be able to diagnose better?

any advice would be great thanks

I`d check the spark plug gaps first in case they`ve openned up too much.

no mate you are right both turbo,s are the same size and spool up together , i,m guessing its over boosting because it is cold , there is no boost control so it could be a problem if you continue to do it !!! ,

plug gap is the distance between the tip of the plug electrode and the steal curved bit ...how old are plugs ?? they could need re-gapping .

thanks, i was mis-informed about the turbo's.

i might change the spark plugs as think they are still the originals.

do you think once the temperature increases that could solve the problem?

thanks

re-gapp a new set of plugs but i would recommend a trip to Yellowshed to get it mapped and checked !!! how much fuel did you have in the car ??

Got to say, mine is a 3-0 ltr but I tootle along like an old woman until it is completely warmed up, this weather she does not like being cold but when at full temp, loves the cold air and everything is fine.
Let her get warmed up properly then take her for a good run

There are a couple of things that could be the problem. How much boost does it run? Yes a rolling road should find the problem. Where abouts do you live?

Hi there,

I had this problem at the start of last year, stuttering, misfiring, cutting out. I tried spark plugs and all sorts, even thought it was the fuel pump (again) but turned out that a coil was stting itself at high boost, problem found and fixed by yellowshed on the rolling road.

im liverpool based but dont mind travelling.

fuel level was about 1/4 full

i had been driving for a good 45minutes-1hour and the stuttering continued

where abouts is yellowshed?

im heading out again soon will keep an eye on the boost gauge especially if i go near the 5,000 mark again (im expecting it will be bouncing around a certain level and not increasing further)

Ian,
I`d try the simple things first and Nobles are known to exhibit this problem if the electrode gap on the spark plugs is too wide. Other things can cause the problem but this is a good starting point and you will have eliminated one possible cause. The original spark plugs were Motorcraft parts but I believe the guru - `yellowshed` - recommends NGK BR7EFS plugs with gaps set at 35 thou/ 0.85mm. You can get the plugs at a number of places but if you go to : www.spark-plugs.co.uk and then put in the BR7EFS reference in the `find a part` box it`ll bring them up at £2.39+VAT each and obviously you need 6...... (That`s less than a third of what you`d pay for a Motorcraft part from a Noble dealer). Before you fit them check the gap on each with a feeler gauge and adjust as required.
Best of luck!

changed the spark plugs but problem persists, if i take it to a rolling road what could be a sign to indicate the problem?

thanks

if your Turbos were running this way you would have total engine failure.they run together
