The ContiForceContact... looks very interesting.

More details as soon as I have them. Launch due in the next 2 months.

Quite a lot of tread pattern on that for a track day tyre?

I had a chance to test them on my RS last summer - continental attended a track day at the NS last year where punters could get a trial set fitted for 300 EUR. Very good tyre, I'd say on par with the Sport Cups but last a little longer. From what I've heard it will be quite expensive tho.

I thought this, but Conti assured me they should be right up there with dry grip and offer better wet grip than competitors. noneedtolift seems to confirm that above (thanks!)

That said, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport seems to have moved things on from the Pilot Sport Cup too, offering equal dry grip but much better wet grip so it will be interesting to see the new pilot sport cup based on the super sport technology.

I think the biggest draw back to this force contact will be the limited sizes.

No worries!
Can't comment on the pilot super sport but it certainly sounds interesting.

That article suggests the Super Sport replaces the PS2; I thought the Cup+ was the replacement for the MPSC?

I've not been told yet. 5 sizes, most likely in 18 and 19 fitments.

I consider both those statements true? confused

There's new compounding and construction technology in the Pilot Super Sport, when this is transferred to the next iteration to the Sport Cup, it should be one epic tyre.

Aha, now I understand what you are saying, I didn't follow your thought process I think - I was trying to work out whether the Super Sport was a full on track day tyre (like the MPSC) which I thought your post was saying, or if it was a high performance road tyre, that was also suitable for occasional track use (like the PS2) as the article seems to suggest.

And another point, presumably the tread pattern in the ContiForce is so that it will meet the 2012 tyre regs for wet performance, etc.?

Probably my fault not explaining things well, as I wrote the article I tend to agree with it smile

The MPSS is part of a new segment I'm calling extreme performance, eg where the R1R fits in. Not quite a full track day tyre, but not a 'normal' ultra high performance tyre either.

As for the force contact, I'd agree it looks more like a MPSS competitor than a MPSC, but I've been told (by Conti) that's they tyre they're after. If I'm honest, I think they don't fully understand the difference between the two yet, and I might put a call in this week just to see if they've changed their mind.

Regarding the tread pattern, Conti have always been a sensible German company so the force contact will have been designed to offer the best wet performance possible from a track day tyre, hence the grooves to clear standing water.

Michelin's own press release claims they're the replacement for the PS2, and will sell for about the same price.

I've asked at Costco today and they've got no info on them so far - which is surprising considering they're supposed to be the largest retailer of Michelin tyres in the UK - but if they are priced the same as the PS2 then they'll be retailing the 225/45r18 at £198 and the 255/40r18 for £234 (Z4MC sizes).

Fitting some Super Sports to my Z4MC next week. Paid £274 per tyre for 265/30-19 (CSLs). Really looking forward to seeing how they perform after the glowing reviews.

Still got good enough PS2s on the front not to warrant throwing them yet, but they'll prob need replacing by mid-end summer.

Had MPSS's fitted last week to my Cayman.
So far they seem very good indeed. Hard to get a real feel for them with the weather we have been having, but on the one semi dry day I had the car out they felt good. Very very sharp turn in and lots of front end grip. In fact the car feels slightly unbalanced at the moment with more front end grip than rear. But there are still less that 200 miles on these tyres so certainly not a definitive test or conclusion. Will know a lot more and be able to offer better feedback after the RS day at Oulton on the 4th March.

Costco selling PSS for £238 and £316 respectively fitted

Cup+ do not replace Cups, they were just required for some later miodel BMW and Porsche due to the Cup perseeved difficulty in standing water.

PSS replace PS2 and i think long term Cup+ as well as Cup+ do nothing better according to Michelin.

i hope Cup stay as there is nothing better out there

For what sizes? I got mine (245 40 R18 and 265 40 R18) from Event Tyres and they were cheaper than that. Excellent service too. And perfectly balanced. And I'm very fussy about balancing.

Sixspeed, where did you get the CSL sizes for £274 each?

Back to the original subject of the thread - I was curious enough to Google it and the sizes are apparently all 19" :
235/35 ZR 19 XL FR
245/35 ZR 19 XL FR
265/30 ZR 19 XL FR
305/30 ZR 19 XL FR
325/30 ZR 19 XL FR

Looks like they are aimed at 997s and M3s.
