I learnt my first lesson in doing a 365 today..

Ive been trying to get into the habit of always taking my camera with me to dos 365 this year.
I was off gokarting today for my birthday (nearly 2 hours from my house) thought I'd bring the camera along and maybe get some action shots..
Ready to shoot.
D'oh!
My memory card was sitting in my iMac at home!
It's actually the second time it's happened me, I felt like a bit of a t
t!

t!Buy a second card and make sure there is always one in the camera (yep - might work --- for some)
Sell the iMac so it can never tempt you to leave he card in it again?
Postpone start of 365 for a day .... ?
Make it an excuse to go karting again soon ....

Buy at least one more card, and try and have a process when you get home and download - download, replace and clear card, revert camera settings to 'normal ones' etc etc.

drove 50+ miles to a scenic area
left the battery on the charger.
Most scenic 3hrs smoking cigars 2010 award won that day.
I have a trick of only using 256MB CF memory cards. I bought 10 of them off e-bay for a fiver. It means that I can keep spare ones in the car at all times. OK so I can only get 43 photos on a card, but then I find that easier for project work and it is still 6 more than I used to get on a roll of film.

Done something similar earlier this year; new camera arrived, got it charged up, went out for a walk on the beach with MrsT, and turned camera on and greeted by the message "no memory card" (or whatever it is). DOH.t!So I now have 2 cards. When the 16G is removed for download, I put in the 4G just in case the 16 doesn't make it back to the camera. That way the camera is always loaded with a card at all times.

Same here. It may be slower but I rarely fill the card so speed isn't too important to me and prevents this from happening. Still intend to get another memory card though.Spare card in my bag anyway.

Same here, much easier just to plug the cable in.Spare card in my bag anyway.
As for the 365, should have taken a photo of the empty card case when you got home and explained what had happened!

It turns out it takes a bit more effort than I thought.. I'll have to put in some work to keep it up and not slack.I actually have two memory cards, one of them's in Liverpool though.. I might try and do the cable thing, sounds as if it could help. The card's really handy though.

The only souvenir I had, it's not even mine.. I had a bad accident near the end of the Final and got lapped twice..

Needed a picture, so had a mess around with a model car and the torch on my iPhone. I don't have a tripod yet, so the camera with just sitting on my bed.

There's no right idea beyond taking one photo a day 
Some folk do add extra criteria to challenge themselves more, though. Such as taking one photo a day for a year with just one lens/focal length. Or always containing the colour red. Stuff like that.Nice pics though, particularly the sunset and the car model

I think the concept cam best be driven by a few underlying guidelines. Using a specifc lens of including a specific colour could be right for some but I suspect that picking 3 or 4 attributes and working wioth those would make the task easier. Depends ho much spare time you need to fill!
"In my life Today" could suggest day to day events that might be worthy of record. Like the karting trophy. Or a noteworthy journey ....
"Weather" (maybe inclusing things like sunsets under that general heading) would, some days, make it easy to pick a subject - though not always easy to get a representative shot.
"Experimental" would cover the model car shot and anything else you get whilst having a need for artisitic creativity.
"Challenge" might be something like the specific lens/colour inclusion/flash exposure/whatever that you can use as an occasional theme, perhaps with a technical bias.
You could, of course, also have a 'random' inclusion from time to time. To be clear - my suggestions are about a structure that you set to help you decide what you are likely to shoot on a day by day basis. The headings are not intended to define subject matter that should be included for a successful 365 - they are just ways to provide subject groups of your own choosing to make it a little easier to decide what to do for each day since I suspect having a small selection of subjects areas to pick from might, for many people, make it easier to decide on what to shoot than it would be if nothing at all was pre-considered.
I have great admiration for anyone setting out to do this and even more for those who complete it - especially if all the presented images are of 'good' standard or better.
Most importantly - enjoy it!
Although that might only be 356 days...
