Hi chaps, my A3 Quattro started making some grinding noises from the rear over the holidays and further investigation has revealed a 2mm play in the wheel when jacked up and checked. Removed the wheel and checked around the hub and all seems tight nuts and bolts wise so it looks like the bearing has had it. I'll be phoning the dealers up on Tuesday, (gets me working from home on Tuesday instead of Driving to the office smile), to check their prices and from my limited experience, I reckon it will take around an hour and a half to change and test. Has anyone got any idea on what is needed as there seems to be some contention on t'internet about whether you should change the hub as an assembly because it's easier or you should just change the bearing. I'm also thinking of doing it myself so anyone with any experience of that on this car would be great.

That said, anyone in the Brighton area with a garage fancy quoting for it?

Thanks for that. Indeedy the Audi one is a hub/bearing assembly. They quote £321 for the change all-in and that includes VAT at the newly extortionate rate. They're a good bunch at the Audi garage and the well iffy breath-over-the-teeth bloke down at Dodgy Dave's emporium of delight wants £250 "...plus anything else that I might find, they can be buggers to get off.." That'll be going to Audi then.

Bearings are usually a standard part number which you can obtain from a bearing specialist for a few quid. Then just press the old one out and replace.

I've had a look on there thanks and like you said, there are a couple. EKTA cite 2 different types for my model/year, (bloody typical), so I'm getting the info from the dealer on which one it is for my car.
