Hi

I have a Hyundai coupe 2003. It has no compresson at all and just winds over and over with no interest in starting at all. the rad went and then i think the head gaskets gone but i think the car was cooked up really badly (was not me driving) and am wondering whats potentially up with it. head gasket or cracked head etc what is the best course of action should i rip this engine down what shouldi try first please.

answers on a post card to..........

any ideas where to start frown

cheers

Very like likely to be the head gasket. There may be other damage or you could be lucky.

Yep, spinning over like a hair dryer is a snapped cam belt kinda thing.

It might be cheaper to just start over a swap a complete engine rather than dig in and start changing parts.

Would the water pump be run off the cambelt?

With overcooked symptoms and no compression I agree a replacement engine would seem a good route however it has got to be worth pulling some covers to see if the cam is going round and then the head to see what's going on in there.

I lost a head gasket on the motorway recently. Virtually zero compression and the AA knew straight away what it was. Also, got a lot of bubbles in the header tank and a whiffy smell of petrol, lol not! It was the middle cylinders of a 4 pot.

If the engine has been properly cooked then it's likely scrap.
