Hi I'm on the look out for a mini one for my daughter for her 18th & have come across a mini cooper for a great price (probably too good to be true) if has full history & is being sold with allegedly 2 simple faults. 1 is requires new Lamba sensor & the other one us an airbag reset required.
I have asked about the airbag reset & answer is below.
"just the airbag light needs resseting not the airbag its a common fault with the sensors"

Does this sound like bks or could it be true?

Its an 02 car Being sold for £3k with 125k miles

Its more than likely the wires under the seat, it is common. A few of us in the mini community carry the air bag reader / reset tool (B200) BMW will charge you about £50 to do it but it could come back on again and then keep costing you. The wires may need to be changed or it could be something else, without scanning it you won't know. I would ask the seller to do it if you want to buy the car

As for the lamba / o2 sensor, do you know 100% its that, there are two of them and they are about £100 - £150 (I forget the actual cost) they do not often fail and it could be the cat causing the error, I would want an OBD readout or scan to find the actual fault before parting with any cash, and garage could do that and again I would get the seller to do it or take it there as part of a test drive, or get a car checker down to check the car over

Ok this car has now been relisted with these faults supposedly sorted.

Is there any way of checking this? Where is the airbag light so I can check it hasn't been disconnected.

It's a long way from me but considering going to view on Tues.

Thanks for your help I know nothing about Minis :-(

The air bag light is part the main clusted so very unlikely its been messed with, it will light up when the key is put in and then go out once the car is started, the cause will be the wires under the seat so check them out. As for the o2 look under the car around the cat to see if ots new. If you still have doubts either walk away or get a mechanics check. Also where is the car you viewing?
