E39 external temperature 'optimistic'

According to the dash the outside temperature has rarely dropped below 10°C in all the freezing weather we've had lately. Where is the sensor and is it easy to replace?

The sensor is located down inside the front bumper. I think to get to it you need to get under the car and there's some minor trim removal to get to it. When mine gave out spurious readings I bought a brand new one and replaced, only to find it still was giving messed up readings. So now, every once in a while it'll tell me it's -14 or something during one of our rare sub tropical UK hot days!

I think somewhere there are guides which show pictorially what I'm trying to say above!
