It must be the time of year! My P38 usually runs well but recently developed a niggling little drop in power at around 2000 revs, whatever the gear or speed.

After a few weeks the engine power then died completely and I could only manage to drive the car at all if I put in the lowest ratio gear and literally revved the engine to the max. As soon as the revs dropped teh engine would just cut out. The problem seemed less obvious with a cold engine, but would become apparent after a couple of minutes driving.

Took it to the garage and they said that nothing was showing up on the diagnostic machine. They tried all manner of things, and have changed the leads, the plugs, the battery, and given it a new camshaft sensor, as this was the only warning light that came up at any time during the testing.

I then had it back, and was told it was capable of idling but still suffering the problem at 2000 revs. Then after a day's driving the same inability to maintain power at low revs came back.

Has anyone experienced this? I've checked rangerovers.net and can't see anything helpful. My mechanic (fairly knowledgable independent) is scratching his head. He says the next step is to try and replacement BECM (the brain thing - sorry, can;t recall the letters off the top of my head) which will cost over £1000?

Any pointers appreciated? Thanks
