Now I am near the end of the LS7 install I am thinking of getting the nine year old body wrapped.

Any suggestions of companies, problems and colours (currently black). Carbon wrap would look stunning but then it would date.

Thanks

He's right. Go with the carbon look.

How powerful is the new LS7?

My 10 yr old black GTR is in need of a fair bit of TLC on the body.

As soon as I have finished my workshop refurbishment I will be removing the body for chassis repair and respray. For me, a body wrap would not be sufficient as there is a fair amount of body damage and crazing.

How long will a wrap last? I did hear that it will start to deteriorate after about a couple of years.

I have a local small firm who specialise in classic car bodywork who also have plenty of experience of GF cars too. Their work is very good and is going to cost me about £3K - less if I stay with black and more if I change the colour.

My feeling for a decent respray/paint of an old car and to make it look like new £5K is the cost and more if you get clever with colours. I think £1.5-2K for a wrap and it should last 3-5 years gives (some claim a lot more but then I doubt we leave ultima out all year round) and the options of changing when bored!

There was a team wrapping a Gallardo at the Autosport/Pistonheads show last year. Quoted about £2k for a GTR IIRC. I liked the idea of Carbon but think it will age too. The big benefit of wrapping is you can change once bored for not huge cost.

The guys I will be using do not have flash workshop or big overheads but the quality of their work is top-notch. Many of the cars they have painted are worth far more than my house. They are what I would call old school experts with a shop full of interesting, valuable cars.

Time will tell and others will be able to judge.

Definitely carbon mate. The vinyls have come on well in recent years and on the GTR I think you can get away with it smile

Strongly disagree with a carbon wrap. This car is all about "the real thing", no bullst. Carbon wrap is best reserved for.....I can't think of anything interesting.

The body is not made of carbon so avoid all the associcated questions about it.

Get a flat color wrap. In two years it will be time for a change on all levels and you will be able to do so easily.

Ah, the voice of sense........ A proper carbon body would look wonderfully horny. A cheap plastic imitation one would look excruciatingly naff - folk would snigger at you and make a rude sign with their hand.

The carbon wrap stuff I have seen might make a good hard wearing surface in the cockpit perhaps but a whole Ultima..?..FFS..eek

personally i see no problem, if your going to vinyl wrap the whole carit makes no difference whether its a solid colour or carbon. Purely a matter of personal preference.

It's _probably_ good to emphasize some parts like hood, roof etc.
but carbon wrap a whole car - especially an Ultima - can't be good wink

It's like wearing a fake Rolex.
It will distract from the internals, which may be good,
but all you can see is a cheap imitation.

Btw. mine's wrapped matt black, and I can higly recommend wrapping the GRP.
No matter if glossy or matt.

Taking the filler into account required for a paint job I would imagine the wrap would be muck lighter.

Don't confuse cheap 'Halfords tat' carbon wrap with decent quality stuff. Massive difference.

Besides, cabon Ultima has been done - it was heavier than the GRP version IIRC!
