track rod ends

hi all

going to get the tracking done , while its being checked might as well fit new one's i dont think there to dear
can someone confirm part numbers so i can get them from my local car factors

at the moment i have lockheed ta 687 ?
or q/h qr 1384s ?

Don't know the part number as I don't have access to my receipts at the moment but I know it was from a Mk3 Cortina when matched at my local factors

Don't forget the very useful "Alternative Parts List". It agrees with both the numbers you quoted.

I've fitted QH QR1384S to my S3 which I noted as Mk2 Escort and early Cortinas.

IIRC TVRCarParts do them cheap enough

tvr carparts are great and not to dear
but part of the fun is finding "info from guys on here" and getting the parts at a very reasonable price

local car factor aftermarket track rod end £9.00 all in x 2 £18.00 total

tvr car parts £14.50 + vat + delivery x 2 aprox £40 quid

I agree that maintaining one on a budget is fun but do watch out for the poor quality replacement parts. I fitted some cheapish branded trackends and had an advisory for steering rack play at MOT time. While doing some other work I discovered that the play was in the trackend to trackrod thread and the cheapish parts had a lot of play in the thread. Fitting some QH parts resolved the problem.

Classic car parts on ebay think I paid £10 also did top ball joints also cheap as chips. All QH items. Fit and forget was my objective.

Mmmmm

Would have thought that once the lock nut was tightened any play in a badly cut thread would be "taken out" ? Unless maybe they were the wrong track rod ends and the thread was completely wrong ???


Re quality of parts I would only buy known brand names and from a reputable motor factor, the ones that have a fleet of little vans supplying dozens of local garages, they wouldn't still be in business if they sold rubbish is my theory ?
And, of course, TVR never made track rod ends (for example) so what is a "genuine part" ?
