About to take the plunge on a XF 3.0D S
Discussion
Hi folks, as I am sure you could tell from my posting habits I am a BMW man through and through. Had 4 5-Series covering 200,000 pretty trouble free miles.
I am now about to take the plunge and buy a XF. Been offered a 3.0 D S Premium Luxury on a 60 plate (4 weeks old), 800 miles, first service free, metallic paint, blind spot monitor, ivory leather, indigo blue, 20" wheels and portable audio interface for 38,000 quid.
Does that sound reasonable? And if so what are the weak points on these that could cause issue over the next 100,000 miles (not that it matters too much due to warranty).
Cheers
Matt

Not bad at all, you didn't mention it, but does it have the parking pack? That is almost a must have as the XF is a big old beast and those front sensors come in very handy!
I'm on my 3rd now and love them!
No parking pack I am afraid, but as part of the deal we have negotiated the fitting of front sensors, but obviously no camera!I'm on my 3rd now and love them!
Just done the first 2500 miles in mine over the last month and.. its great.
It feels remarkably special inside and also has something the 5 series I traded in lacked - it has character.
I've been a little disappointed with the fuel consumption ( Govt combined 42mpg ) with an average of 35mpg. My previous 520d ( Govt fig 55mpg ) returned an average over 14000 miles of 51mpg, however, in over a month I don't think I've managed to park the Jag without glancing back.
The performance is excellent - this may be linked to the poor economy

Mind you , mine has been remapped and this was after averaging 150mph for 80 miles
So yes fuel consumption is directly connected to the fun pedal unfortunately!Number 5 said:
Are they face lifting the XF?
Yes. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Searc...I changed from an Audi A5 3.0 diesel to an XF 3.0 S diesel portfolio. The Jag was better in almost every respect - except fuel consumption. I doubt you will get anywhere near the official figures whereas the Audi was right on the money.
I test drove BMW 5 series and Merc E class before buying the Jag and in my opinion they weren't in the same league.

Don't think we've ever been anywhere near the official figures for the mrs' 320CDI MB either.
The 'official' figures have nothing what so ever to do with the real world. They aren't even done on roads.
I appreciate that, but the Audi and Jag had almost identical official figures. The 'official' figures have nothing what so ever to do with the real world. They aren't even done on roads.
In the real world and over 10k+ miles the Audi returned 40mpg and the Jag 34mpg.

Matt , I'd like to hear how you find the XF after those BMWs. I am considering an Audi - XF switch.

early days, but 500 miles in so far so good and 37mpg! fairly happy as its still being run in but suspect I will never see the 40+mpg average I had from the BMW.Steven Quas , Hamburg
will provide a far more detailed report a few weeks in.

Thanks Matt, it's interesting to hear some real world economy figures. Was it a 520d that gave a 40+mpg average, or one of the 3 litre ones (525d,530d,535d)?will provide a far more detailed report a few weeks in.
Look forward to hearing your more detailed write up when you've had a chance to test it thoroughly.

If I can average 37mpg out of the Jag with another 50bhp, autobox etc I will be happy!
1500 miles in and still very happy. Doing about 34mpg, not brilliant to be truthful but not bad for what it is with such low miles.
still hoping for a 37mpg average once the engine loosens up a bit...it certainly doesnt feel sluggish though, seriously rapid!
unfortunately it has already been into the workshop having not started monday morning, software or battery fault it would appear. even so, very pleased if it stays reliable going forward.
