Are there any Mansun fans here on PH?
I bought 'Six' back when I was in school, one of the first CDs I ever had and I thought it was fantastic. It's still a great listen now.
However I recently discovered their album called Kleptomania which, I think, was released after the band split up, on the back of a petition by fans. I've been listening to it for a good few months now and it's gotten better and better. If you're a fan I would check out CD1. Have a listen to 'cry to my face' or, really, any track.

I discovered them by, of all things, listening to R1's Essential Mixes back in the late 90's!

All of you thinking that their work only included 4 albums (Lantern, Six, Little Kix and Kleptomania) need to scour the web for the virtually unknown 5th album (obviously unreleased). Dead Flower Rejects. Bloody fantastic. Some of the tracks are already known, but the others are crackers, especially the title track.
Paul Draper has done the odd thing here and there since Mansun split, but not much of note. The sod keeps on making mentions of being in the studio, writing music .... but no sign of releasing anything.

we used to share rehersal space with mansun,cast and space up in crash studios in liverpool.always sounded good and polished even in a rehersal studio.i remember when they just wrote wide open space and heard it over and over in the studio thinking that it would be a sure fire hit then
Oh yes, I was obsessed with 'Six' for a long time and it is still one of my all time favourite albums - although I don't listen to it as much now.
An amazing album that took ages to appreciate, but then revealed something different each time. It is in my opinon very underrated, and deserves to be more of a cult classic!
Parts of AOTGL I still like - particularly the opening track, Wide Open Space and Naked Twister, but I think a lot of it is a bit more dated and cheesy now, and the third album is largely pap too.
There were some great b-sides, and some of the abandoned 4th album stuff was good too which made Kleptomania a great little package.

Liked them a lot ever since 'Take it Easy Chicken' and 'Egg Shaped Fred' (I can't remember which came first).... More into my house music these days, but love to end my DJ sets by slipping in the Perfecto Mix of 'Wide Open Space' from time-to-time... It always gets a very positive but amusing response, with people I'd never expect to recognise it thanking me for playing it, and DJ mates with a pretty in-depth knowledge of music asking WTF it is!!

'Take it Easy Chicken' came first, it was on the 'Two' EP.It's a great song and one of the few to mention a TVR.
Got most of the EPs, including 'Two' which was the third CD I ever bought and AOTGL. Very underrated band IMO.

Six is one of my favorite albums of all time, it's a marmite album, I have some friends who think it is total rubbish but I love it, I remember seeing them play it at Ipswich Corn Exchange-Happy memories. I also loved the 1st one, Little Kix wasn't quite up there but had some good tracks-'comes as no surprise' was a fantastic song.
Been listening to the new White Lies album-'Ritual' and some of it reminds me of 'attack', particuarly the kind of indie/dance cross over on 'Taxloss'
All these albums must be listened loud tho...

Big fan, never saw them live though. Love Grey Lantern and Six, not such a fan of Little Kix, bit lightweight/cheesy (?) compared to the others?
