Raiders of the Lost Ark

Kali Maaaaa.......
I remember seeing that one in America (where they get quite into movies in the cinema) and the cheers that went up at that scene were brilliant.
The problem with Crystal Skull, like most movies these days, was the reliance of far too much CGI. I'm not even talking about just for 'special effects', but for literally everything. The biggest crime in modern movies is the subsitution of real, actual locations and set pieces for green screen. Yes, it's cheaper (is it though, really?) but it just looks so blatantly obvious and fake.
Even the start of Crystal Skull where they're all supposedly outside hangars at Area 51 looks completely un-natural. Compare that to the start of Raiders where he's running away from the tribe and swings over to the plane which looks fantastic.
You can immerse yourself in Raiders, your brain doesn't fight it. Crystal Skull looks like a tech demo for the latest computer hardware.
Of course, the other issue is Lucas' obvious furry obsession. What the gophers in Crystal Skull had to do with I've no idea.

Finally watched it. Easily one of the very best films of it's type. Puts other recent action adventure films to shame.
Two things I hadn't noticed before, the SS man looks like he shaved his head for the part, and 72 inches minus one kadam would make the staff of Ra shorter than Dr. Jones, but instead it towers over him by two feet
