Just taken delivery of a Disco 4 that has come with M&S rated Pirelli Scorpions.

My question to those in the know; should these tyres be removed in the spring when the weather improves and be replaced with something more 'warm weather' biased?

If so, what?

I run mine on M+S tyres all year round (mine came on Michelins), and I get 80-85,000 km out of a set, so I don't think they wear out too fast.

I don't know whether you can buy non M+S tyres for 4x4's. I've checked our fleet (5) and they all have M+S on their tyres.

Have run our m&s tyres throughout the year. Temps ranging from 40 to -15 degrees. No issues traveling at 200km/hr in high temps, stick with them as they are rather good.

Scorpions are not winter tyres and thus don't 'need' to be changed when it warms up. M+S tyres are an all-season tyre and are different to winters which can be identified by the 'snowflake' symbol.

However if you choose to change them for cosmetic reasons that's up to you.

Ready for next time, what are the current replacement costs for these tyres (I'll go hunt BlackCircles in a mo, but I don't know the tyre size off the top of my head as I've only owned the car for 1/2 a day and it was dark).

If its on 20'' then they are 255/50/ZR20, replacement costs £240 inc. vat. With all the hype regarding winter tyres I was wondering if any gain in wet weather braking performance would come with a change to 'winter' tyres?
Are winter tyres made for SUVs?

Yes, they do. I used Scorpions for 3 winters including skiing trips - the change to Michelin Alpins made a noticeable difference to wet weather performance - grip and braking.

The Scorpions are now consigned to gravel/rally use.

I don't think the boss would appreciate me taking the Disco for gravel rally purposes.

Based on these opinions, I'll be leaving them on. And what's even better; they're no more expensive than the smaller rubber I was putting on the Audi A4 I previously had.

Do you know whether M+S tyres count as winter tyres in Germany?

I'm heading over there in a couple of weeks, and I know that winter tyres are compulsory in Germany.

I don't know - sorry.

I do think that they all look for the snowflake symbol, but in the years I was using the Pirellis (France) it was never an issue, I would've just had to fit chains.
