Just a cheeky punt
Anyone achieved a good discount from Porcelanosa lately? I'm looking for 60 sq mtr's of tiles and have seen a few types we like (Carrera Marble like). Prices hovering around the £70 mtr bracket. Chap i spoke to yesterday hinted at 30% discount. I reckon that's the best i'm going to get and happy with that, but thought i would test the power of PH!

I don't have any *specific* links to the product/s i am looking at atm, but the above gives an idea of the *type* of marble. Probably going to go for a ceramic or porcelain tile rather than natural, and will be used for walls and floors in two bathrooms. I need to visit Porcelanosa again as i didn't realise there was so many variations and sizes in this range. I *think* the current fave was approx 33cm X 90cm X 1.2cm for the wall tile, and then approx 60cm X 60cm for the floor tile (same tile, just different size)
Cheers

not sure if floor gres do a marble substitute, I went for travertine porcelain:
http://www.floorgres.it/en/proda-3-1.asp
in gold:
http://www.floorgres.it/en/prods-159-1.asp
30 x 60 for the walls (brush hammered and smooth)
60 x 60 for the floor
mosaic for the wetzone section
have a look around and see what you can find that matches the requirements, maybe this one in white:
http://www.floorgres.it/en/prods-171-1.asp
these guys stock them:
http://www.ceramictile.co.uk/index2.htm
To give you an idea of the price they stocked them for £43 a sq meter and Surface (http://www.surfacetiles.com/) had them for £125 a sq meter.
Was well worth it and happy with the end result.

Thanks Du1point8 for taking the time to add them links and advice - i will certainly look through the floorgres website and see if anything suits. If so i will deffo try the guys that you dealt with!
At this stage i think Porcelanosa are going to hold the key to the look i'm trying to achieve -

I did find a natural product i liked but was put off by the size and weight of the tile - i have a mixture of plasterboard and solid walls and thought the tile may be too heavy for a standard studded wall? Cost was over £100 m2 too! So, i was pleased to find a very good replica from Porcelanosa - much cheaper and less maintenance/hassle

Thats staturio marble in slab format (i.e huge pieces) and bookmatched so you get that effet. VERY expensive and not possible to do in ceramic. At this stage i think Porcelanosa are going to hold the key to the look i'm trying to achieve -

I did get a quote for a carrara marble slabbed bathroom and iirc it was about 4k fitted for about 20sqm which i thought was very reasonable but couldnt afford it. Without doubt though slabbed bookmatched is the best wall covering imo.
If it were me i would be looking around the stone merchants, for between £50-£100 you will get some nice large(600x400) carrara marble.
Its not much maintenance, infact no more at all, maybe every few years you will have to put a fresh coat of sealer on. Before installation you will need to sealer them but carrara isnt mentally porous so you wont need many coats.
You are right though regarding weight, you would need to change the plasterboard for proper tile backer board.
I just couldnt buy ceramic tiles which are made to look like the real thing, too much like a laminate floor iykwim. Pattern repeat being a real killer for me. I also think porcelenosa is crazily priced for what it is (some being very nice though to be fair).
edit to add that carrara is basically staturio but not as clean, staturio is much whiter with the grey being much greyer and much more defined, carrara can sometimes look dirty if its not good quality, may be showing some iron which will give a yellowish tinge.
One day i will have a bathroom like that and a staturio kitchen, even if it would be a nightmare in the kitchen, it simply looks awesome.

We have a trade account with porcelanosa and get a minimum 45% off everything apart from the stone. So you at least know they have a huge margin to play with.
Regards the floor gres we have sold and used it a lot - went to their factory (which was mega) a couple if years back. Its a proper high-end product.

agree with going directly to a stone merchant, you get to see what you'll be buying
depending on how much you need you could well be better off waiting until March when the quarries open up again - there is an awful lot of rubbish out there at the moment, a client has rejected pretty much all the stone that has been selected for their house

That's a good discount - presumably because you get a lot of stuff through them. A new trade account is only 30% disc so may be worth the OP asking a few local tilers what deal they get, or asking the porc sales guy who he'd recommend = best discount.Regards the floor gres we have sold and used it a lot - went to their factory (which was mega) a couple if years back. Many thanks for all the replies. A friend of a friend has managed to pull a favour and secure me a nice discount
. Just need to decide on the type of tile to use now - going to pop to the Doncaster showroom - much superior to the Nottingham branch. If i recall, last time i went there they had a Carrera style ceramic tile which looked fab. I do agree - there is no substitute for the real thing, but i have decided cost wise this will be at least double the ceramic, and tbh i envisage us moving house within the next 2-5 years. The studded walls would also need upgrading to take the weight of natural marble. We have granite worktops in the kitchen, so am well aware of the weight of natural stone.

I got all my stone last year around August iirc and it was a nightmare for me. I simply have champagne taste but not even beer money depending on how much you need you could well be better off waiting until March when the quarries open up again - there is an awful lot of rubbish out there at the moment, a client has rejected pretty much all the stone that has been selected for their house

Anyway i wanted carrara but everything i saw under £60 ish was either 300x300 or quite yellow. In the end i decided to go for Antalya limestone, i also felt it looked a bit more contempory which is what i wanted. Still a lot of crap about, in the end i found a supplier in Rainham called tramer tiles who were nothing short of supurb. They had lots of cheap antalya in, huge differences in quality between pallets of identical stone, i would imagine that if i didnt know anything about stone or ordered via the net i would have got a right load of s
t turn up.These guys let me sift through about 7 pallets of stone until i found pallets i was happy with (some was so soft i could break it with a finger), then they let me hand pick what i wanted from those pallets. I needed about 65 sqm so as you can imagine it took forever but the end result is i have stone which if i told you i paid £70 per m for you would believe, i paid £31 inc !
Top guys down there ( i think they were fed up with me though, especially when i went back for a few more meters and i could see him mutter something to himself and look worried

Nice bathroom in statutario..going rate for supply and fix book matched is £650-£700 m2 plus vat..
Even at this prices still very popular.
A reasonable Carrara white marble in 600x600 would
Cost you about £60 plus vat..IMO will always look better than porcelain.
Ouch. I haven't totally ruled out natural stone yet - there was an attractive tile at Porcelenosa for £109 m2, with discount I reckon £65-£70. I just have this issue with possibly moving house within the next few years. Even at this prices still very popular.

...and apologies for calling it Carrera. I always get it mixed up with the Porsche Carrara
