Zonda Replacement Could Be Called Huayra

Pagani registers almost-unpronounceable name

Pagani looks set to call its forthcoming replacement for the Zonda supercar the 'Huayra', which is - apparently - the word for wind in the ancient South American language of Quechua.

If you're wondering exactly why this might be, company founder Horacio Pagani is from Argentina (so there's the Latin American connection), while Pagani has a tradition (though admittedly not a very long one) of naming its products after famous winds.

The name was revealed by Italian web site Al Volante, which discovered that Pagani had put in a request to register the name as a trademark within the EU.

Other than the possible name, little else is known as yet about the new car, which has until now been referred to simply as the C9. The only other spot of info we have so far is this deeply enigmatic teaser video (below), which shows a brief glimpse of the new car in key-ring model form, but mainly - and somewhat oddly - focuses on a cup of espresso...curiouser and curiouser...

Thought it was a AMG unit based on the Merc V12 but built specifically for Pagani

You may be forgetting VW there - Scirocco, Jetta, Vento and I think even Golf was referring to Gulf originally. Not forgetting the Renault Wind.

And the Corrado, Passat, Bora,..

Probably not Sharan, though.

If they must call it after a wind, why not simply defer to the most powerful wind of all and call it the Pagani Fart GT?

PS the Passat is named after a (Alpine, I think) wind, too. Ditto the Maserati Mistrale.

Hmm, if you put Huayra into wikipedia, the first thing it comes up with is a breed of Bolivian frog.

Apologies you may be totally correct - it was a fleeting glance last thing this morning that stuck in my head, so highly likely you're right.

It certainly looks like all the decent wind names have been taken hehe

So what do you drive?

A Huu, Hoo, Howay, Hyai, a Pagani.

Oh, which model?

Err, Zonda mk2.
