Chaps

I think my car is not 'turning off' after the 10 minute shut down and the drain on the battery is starting to show (the alarm is going off intermittently, fails to start on the button sometimes).

You might be reading this and thinking 'what on earth is he talking about?' Basically there's a little telltale light next to P on the gearshift. This stays alight for approx 10 minutes after you turn the negine off as the various systems shut down. It should then extinquish until the next time you start the car.

Mine doesn't extinquish.

I'm sure there's a relatively straightforward fix for this (vague memories of reading of it somewhere - maybe not on here) - can anyone help please?

Can you hear a fan turning after the key has been removed, if so, probably the FSR (hedgehog)going bad, continuing to run the fan and not allowing the car to 'sleep', draining the battery.

Ultimate test is to connect a multimeter up in series and start pulling the fuses, remember to diconnect the pin switch on the boot/door.

I've recently changed the FSU (for a BMW one, not pattern) - well the garage did, not me.

There is no audible fan noise.

Might have to get the codes read.

Just to check - the light stays on for 16-17 minutes, if it's on after that, you've got a problem. Any electrical activity after that (locks, alarms etc) will activate it again.
