I'm a bit new to Sat Nat so this might be a really dumb question....

I have a Garmin Sat Nav system that I've been using in UK and a couple of trips to Europe. All lovely.

I'm planning a couple of weeks driving New York to LA in the autumn. Is there any way I can work on the planner route on line and download it to my Sat Nav. I'm expecting to have to do something on line, then print it out and tap it all labouriosly in again.

Perhaps not? Anyone able to help?

Thanks, Tim

I have no experience with Garmin, but my TomTom has a card slot which can accommodate cards for various areas, such as the US. The cards can be purchased from TT.

I have had a couple of Garmin units, and upgraded to the Zumo 660 last year so I can use it with our cars and bikes!

My original unit had UK and European mapping, and I bought mapping for N.America and Canada on a SD card, which simply slots in to the unit. The main benefit of this is you don't lose anything you have on the unit currently it simply gives you the extra maps you need! When I changed to the Zumo that had a micro SD slot. No problem as the SD card with the US mapping had a micro SD card within it. All I had to do was remove it from the SD adaptor and insert it into the Zumo.
Have used it in the US on both coasts and it works superbly! Last trip was from Philly to Manhattan via Long Island. Worked everywhere including downtown Manhattan, where it found the car rental return office easily.
I would highly recommend a Garmin for your trip.

TIP - Buy the Garmin USA plug in on EBay rather than from Garmin. Mine was about 1/3 of the Garmin price.
