don't get me wrong, i'm moving from london to ruralish derbyshire this year and the first thing i'll do when i get there if not before, is get a range rover. i'm reading great things about the 4.4 deez, so why would anyone buy the 2011 5.0 sc?

I would. I know it doesn't make any sense when the new diesel is as quick as the old (2007) supercharged, but knowing there is another one in the range that does 0-60 in 5.9 secs would eat away at me.

Also I have an unhealthy hatred of diesels for no good reason except old fashioned stereotypes

I know that sounds sad but I love the speed that the supercharged gives you - it feels so wrong in such a good way in a 2.5 ton vehicle.

That said, I would want to test drive the new diesel first.

Either way it's an academic conversation for me as there are other priorities right now, like house extensions and the like.

I did go onto the configurator and my ideal spec comes in at just over £100k. May be a few years away that one!

I live in rural Derbyshire and get terrible mpg out of Diesel D3 (and TVR). It is very hilly where I live and so the weight of the Disco means poor MPG.

Yup. Was talking about it the other day with Mrs RSE. Suggested the diesel makes more sense.

She said "I won't be driving anything but a petrol Range Rover"

Ok then dear. You're the boss.

If they can gas one then yes. If not then a 4.4 V8 oiler in five years.
