I might have heard it wrong but I'm pretty sure some lass on R2 was just going on about Beckham being lined up for the England managership.

Quite, it's about time we tried some proven international football managers instead of homegrown ones...rolleyes

(If England wants to win the World Cup it needs to focus on grass roots football NOT paying a show pony manager to try and motivate 22 second rate footballers who are missing out on their summer holidays).

However far fetched this is presently I fear eventually this will be the case.

give him 15 years and I reckon he will be england manager - by then it might be a prodigal return....

wishful thinking?

needs to really earn his stripes though managerial wise.

i think he'd be shown to be tactically weak but man management strong. almost keegan-esque

Redknapp should be in next once the Euro champs are over.

Becks might be in alongside him though?

I think Beckham is being lined up to be No 2 to Redknapp, which I think would be a good, positive move.

I would also give Ian Holloway a go, even if we were losing it would still be entertaining!

I think Holloway would do a great job - tactically i feel he's bang on the credits - not many matches where he's got it wrong.

Becks and sven/Brolly wally - dream team!! *L*

No he shouldn't!

He'd be useless for England. No tactical nouse, players don't get on with him, funny face...

I doubt it will be Harry. I used to golf with Mel Machin, and he reckoned that the Spurs job will be 'Arry's last, as he's not a big fan of all the attention.

To golf?

Since when has golf been a verb?

Don't you mean "to play golf"?

Pistonheads. Grammar matters.

would be the 3rd worst thing to happen to England.

The first being to think that waste of space was worth over a hundred caps for England, the 2nd that he was also worth carrying through numerous finals.

you missed the point, homegrown or not, becks isnt a manager. becks is a great bloke to have in the dressing room and all this talk is of him formalising that role in had in the world cup, not managing the team. he is great at motivating players when someone else he has NO coaching or management experience whatsoever.

So when we are two down at half time in an important qualifier, i want someone in charge who has proven coaching or management experience and whom we can trust to turn the game around with tactics, not relying Beckham-style motivation - that doesnt work, see Hoddle, Keegan, Erikson.....

we had a good grasssroots set up with the likes of Stven Taylor, Arron Lennon and Theo Walcott, but previous managers have all but ruined their chances by playing older players to appease egos. fk international football, i really dont care. let the Farcial Association rot....

You miss my point - you can have the best manager in the world, but if he's managing a load of st players (which england are continuing to produce) that lack the skill of their opponents, it's not much good. Get Becks to do it for free and spend the money on youth academies.

My thoughts exactly. Surely coming through the under 21s etc would be his progression?
