Bonuses/Air Miles/Extras on flight purchases.

I fly quite a lot for work, but mostly around Europe so it takes ages to get enough miles to go anywhere. What's good for me is lounge access, but I guess if you're only flying a few times a year then that's not a big deal for you.
IMO, the best use for airmiles is to upgrade classes, rather than to pay for the whole flight. You normally find that the taxes & charges you still have to pay make the 'free' flights not that much of a bargain.

BA and Virgin do credit cards so you can build up points (I think). I fly a fair bit and I think with Virgin I seem to build up points quicker....however they do seem to be the hardest to get an upgrade from. Also I think BA premium economy (world traveller plus I think is what they call it) is much better than the Virgin one

Another vote for the Virgin Amex ... It also builds up free upgrades faster than BA. Do you not get the emails telling you that you now have a free upgrade or a companion ticket ??? You get a free upgrade for every 10k spend on the card (max 4 a year) and a companion ticket for the next 10k after than (max 1 a year). I use my Virgin Amex for everything to get these deals and then use my BA Amex for miles and another companion ticket.... Been doing this for a few years.
