Hi, i recently painted some skirting boards etc at my place with satin wood paint. I don't like the finish, prefer gloss, so my question is:

Is it best to sand down the satin wood then apply the gloss, or would it be ok to paint over the satin wood, in effect using it as an undercoat for the gloss?

A light-sanding to provide a key for the gloss should be OK. Or you can get stuff from the local paint supplier to paint on to the satin to provide a decent base for the gloss.

Rub down, apply an undercoat as the key for the gloss, top coat, jobs a good'un.

There is no substitute for Prep work in painting.

My OCD would have me looking at the skirting for ever and wondering how much better it would look if I had done the right thing rather than just top coat it.
