£4k for a front end respray?!

Racing Green told me that a front end respray for a Sag would be around £4000!! It's in red glow pearl, so not a particularly unusual or expensive colour. I could only laugh and kindly refuse!

I have just had my Cerbera front end including the engine bay covers + air boxes painted for a quater of that price and the quality of the work is truley amazing.

Rear end respray with a bit of remedial work was less than 1K in a simple metallic for me, and it's good quality work.

I've been quoted about 4k for a respray of a whole Sag + re-armourfending and that was for the more exotic Cascade Indigo colours.

4k just for the front does seem a little over quoted shall we say...

Had a front end respray on the Griff using a local coachworks and the bill was under £500. Perfect job - unlike some of the so-called specialists we've used in the past at considerably higher costs.

As our man said to us its not rocket science. If it has a paint code, there is no reason why any compentent coachworks can't deal with it.

Surface & Design are good, but expensive. I had the nose (blended upto the 1st slash cuts), front splitters and rear diffuser done at Central TVR. Excellent finish and paint match on Purple Pearl Sag. Circa £750 if memory serves. Speak to Adrian. It's nearer to you than Blackpool! They don't really promote themselves too much, but Adrian has been on TVR's for 25 plus years and the paintshop is spotless and dust/moisture free.

Sorry, but that is a ripoff price. However, a fair chunk of the cost could be the paint. I paid 'old TVR' prices for my Red Glow, but the bodyshop only needed 3/4 litre for the whole front end (nose/wings/bonnet to blend it all in nicely - I only needed some nosejob stonechips and a laquer peel around the headlight doing). They did a base red in that Rover Nightfire Red, or something very similar, then the top coats in Red Glow Pearl.

I paid around £1200 to Specialised Paintwork in West Reading (behind Porsche UK), this included hassles getting the new headlight lens covers to fit/stick. They are well recommended by many and I would use them again.

Luckily, old TVR paint prices are no more so you can save a bit there too. Have a look for suppliers on the bodywork part of this forum.

He won't have access to this paint colour - he'll need to get it from a few specialist places (ex TVR folks I think). Still, at least its not a casccade colour - they're very expensive.

Doesn't surprise me. IIRC I was quoted well over 10k for a full respray in brilliant silver.

Definitely

Front end, wing mirrors and a full rebuild and respray of the rear diffuser was under £1k for iced titanium by a Lotus and TVR specialist up here (www.option1sportscars.co.uk). Had a few minor blemishes polished out too (petrol filler area, roof).
