Probably isnt the ideal place to be posting this but I just wanted to know if anyone had purchaced a replica watch from the internet? I have always liked the style of the IWC watches and while I am not in a position to buy a genuine one have stumbled across some replicas. They look fantastic and really so long as they keep a reasonable time all I am concerned with. I am a little concerned that they may look awful on arrival as they are still fairly expensive and also not last much more than a few months. Any feedback would be great.

If you want to fund terrorism and encourage slavery go for it.

Of you could look for a hommage.

Indeed it is.

General consensus is that it's a no no from what I have seen.

I think quality varies hugely and I think its a bit pot luck as to what you get when buying off the net.

The big thing for me is.. (this may not come out as eloquently as I'd like).. Why do you want one over a decent cheaper watch that will no doubt last you a lot longer and is genuine..

Eg, what do you say when someone comes up and thinks you have a £25,000 watch on and asks about it? pretend its real? make a joke of it? etc etc

These are circa £300 and v nice in my opinon..

Jimmy what I would do I was you, is get this thread deleted, start a new one with your budget and the names/pictures of a couple of watches you like the look of.

You just might be suprised at the number of replies and suggestions you get.

I'm sure all the pictures on the websites are of real watches,

Yeah there is something about it I really like.

I dont think they will be something one will ever make money on despite the "rarity" but it does look a nice watch

I would advise going for a homage, too... not sure about the funding terrorism and slavery thing, though. The same factories that knock out homages also knock out fakes. Well, in China. Not many Somalian homage manufacturers. biggrin

If you buy a fake, it makes you one too. What would you be trying to show, that you're someone/something you're not?

Are you the sort to buy an MR-2 with a 355 bodykit, or laugh at people who'd do that?

Get a Seiko or an Oris. Or wait.

First of all apologies, I was not looking to start a huge debate but had a feeling it may raise a few eyebrows. If I knew how to remove the topic i would. Let me start again.

I like the un cluttered not over complicated look of some of the IWC range such as:

I am not in a position to purchase an original so would be keen to find something of a similar style.

Was merely considering a replica as I havent come accross something I like half as much.

Many Thanks.

What's your budget? And are you happy with looks alone (so happy with a quartz movement)?

I have around £500 to spend possibly a little more if I really liked it. I must confess it is the asthetic qualities that attracted me to those particular watches and know little about the internals. Seems to be a similar pattern with my women! Any advice would be appreciated.

Have a look at Tao http://stores.ebay.co.uk/uswatchshop or Parnis http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/xiaosong12580_W0QQ_i...
I've bought from both in the past and can recommend, for the IWC 'look' Parnis would be the best place to start. The Tao will come in a nice box, the Parnis in bubble wrap, if that matters to you.
