What method do any of you other owners use please?

There is no space at all for a regulation size plate. I stuck it directly to the front spoiler on the F348 but on the TR it is 4cm too shallow. The plate would overhang this amount and be off within a very short time.

Without drilling holes in the bodywork and using a home-made Mecanno type bracket, what are my options?

Tony666 is convinced that there is a piece of legislation somewhere that states, if your car was manufactured without a suitable and obvious place to site the front plate, then it does not need to display one. However, I cannot find this anywhere.

I know that the front plate display issue has been covered in the Speeding/plod forum, so I'm now just asking any other TR owners what they do.

Thanks in advance smile

(Apart from leaving it off, the only solution I can think of is to have a smaller, shallower plate made).

Every photo I've ever seen has a standard plate more or less vertical in front of the spoiler

The thing about legally not having one depends on the car being homologated without and I think only applies to the Enzo

Hi mate, 666 is unfortunately wrong in his assumption wink , the only concession is a smaller plate (mototcycle style) for cars that dont have a "normal" space for a UK plate......see here:

http://www.american-auto-club.co.uk/aac_articles/i...

Apparently "no plate" renders a mere 60 quid fine....although I wouldn't recommend that type of reckless behavior wink

Thanks for that Jason smile

Looks like a call will be going into Fancy Plates to get a slightly shallower one made up.

It's your call, you could run without one.... I've seen guys running without front plates for literally 8yrs+ with no problems, or get a slightly smaller one made up. I had one of these on my old Lambo, and had no grief at all. It was all normal typeface and spacing etc, but just 85% of normal size.

I have thought of that Matt and did it for a while with the 348, but I'm a bit of a purist and, although I love the cleaner lines of no front plate, having a big white piece of plastic sat on top of the dashboard offends me aesthetically hehe

Al, Humberside traffic are very keen on number plate offences so you're right in getting one sorted.

Not sure if this helps ?

On the 512TR there is a bracket to hold a number plate as seen here

I had to fit a smaller private plate to the car only a few weeks back .

It is made of 2 extension brackets then a large (full size number plate) flat metal plate sprayed black which fits to the small extension brackets .

I removed the large flat plate and just used the 2 smaller brackets to hold the new small number plate .

Dont know if it factory (512TR update from TR along with many other parts) or been made for the job as one off thou .

Completely off-topic, so please dish out the proverbial spanking, but the only thing that 512 TR is missing are the wing badges. Otherwise cloud9

carrying on with off topic .

I always liked the TR shape ,

and now after working on one for over 3 weeks must admit that i am starting to go around in circles with what models of ferraris i like .

I am now back the the 328 / 512TR / 355 as my favs for looks cloud9

i will be writing a long story as such of all the things done to the 512TR while it was with us , found some shocking finds done in the past by Ferrari specalists which had to be redone .

A few guys know that i have been thinking of buying a Ferrari (one who has posted on this thread) and i dont think its going to be to long before a 355 in sitting in my workshop that i own .

Cheers for all of the replies guys. I have a small one on its way from Fancyplates, but it does look so much better without... and if Humberside Police are so keen, bloody good job I'm moving to North Yorkshire then hehe

Kelly - I have just been looking through your full detail write up on Detailing World on the TR, bloody brilliant report and good answer on the lifting points. I must admit, I did wonder when I first saw the shot but what you say all makes sense smile

I will post the link to Talkwrench who has my car in for a few bits and pieces... see if he can do something similar for next Thursday! biggrin

Thanks thumbup

I have posted a couple of other threads on DW of a 550 and gran turismo too wink

Great name for a car mechanical place BTW smile

Had the pleasure of driving the TR back to the customers home last night , surprised me how easy it was to drive , the last older ferrari i drove was 328 and still remember the gears were a nightmare until the box got hot and i kept hitting my knee with left hand when steering and changing gear , but the TR was completely different which came as a shock really .

It's quite a popular misconception that they're a pig to drive. Apart from the steering being heavy at low speed they're a pleasure to drive. Plenty room in the cabin, good visability, comfortable and my clutch isn't heavy at all. The car is very wide though, but most modern supercars are probably nearly the same width.

The best thing of all though is the noise of the flat 12 behind your head once you get into the higher rev range.

Beautiful music.
