Has anyone tried both?
Is the RS500 worth the premium?
There seem to be plenty of both on the market.

It's all about the exclusivity. Yes you get an extra 50 horses but you can have the mp350 fitted for less than an RS500.

There is also lots of issues with the matt black wrap so I would say a garage is a must for the 500.

The focus RS is brilliant and you will probably want the first one you test drive smile

Agreed, it's about exclusivity and whether you prefer one over the other.

I like the exclusivity and I'd have loved a Focus RS500 to go with my real RS500 wink but I really hate the wrap and the black wheels. Even with a decent offer from the dealer that supplied my Focus RS, I declined.

You pays your money and takes your pick yes

Agree with the others, the std RS is a fantastic car & if you want the extra performance, mountune it.

The problem with the RS500 is, it will be a collectors car & will always be worth a lot more in the future but only if its kept in mint, low mileage, original condition, so, you wouldn't want to take it out if weather a bit iffy, do any little mods on it, cant leave it anywhere, it will just end up sitting in a garage for months on end!
I prefer a car i can drive, whenever i want, do any mods etc without having to worry too much about originality too much, its a car to driven & enjoyed! The wrap also has to have too much time & specialist attention given to it that i could give! biggrin
Having said that, there is already 1 RS500 that has been de-wrapped!

I had a chance of a 500 but decided to stick with my std RS. biggrin

As above, if you want an investment (with a debateable return) get the standard car...it`s still a pretty rare site on the roads and its the same car, a different colour, and add the mountune upgrade, or GGR it for a lot less to get you similar performance.
Its a brilliant car which does absolutely everything except for lots of mpg, but not even too bad on that front if you drive it reasonably on a run.

If you simply must have the matte black look, red stitching etc, then the choice is obvious.

I was very happy with the Mountune MP350 upgrade to my standard RS, given it's exactly the same as what's fitted to the RS500, for most it's a no brainer given the cost difference of RS500 vs used RS + MP350.

You could buy an RS, get a top spec Wrap, few mods and still have lots of change for the price of a 500.

My money would be spent as: £26k new car, black wheels £280, Lowered £250, Roof Wrap in black £180, Body Wrap £1,500, New Intercooler, air filter, Sports Exhaust (decat) and a remap should cost you under £30k and be running what 385bhp ish? And be a unique color.

I have been playing with the idea of wrapping mine, ST orange or ST Red, I think the Seats would look awful though frown

Buy standard, the wrap can be a bit of a nightmare. Special Opaque cleaning kits, stonechips etc..

SCC Performance do mine, I'm only running a Milltek turbo back decat, K&N filter and 340S software. Total cost: £1500 = 340ps

385S kit is something like £3500. Plumb in some KW V3 and AP brakes, and you've got a right touch of a car.

Down in my garage lives both RS and RS500. I love the white one, but you can't beat the looks of the 500. Its just so different and stealthy. I think the matt finish suits the car perfectly.

As for performance I can't really tell you if the extra 50 bhp makes much difference (although i'm sure it does) as i've only been out in the 500 once and its still being run in.

As above get the standard one and MP350 it (like I have) for a lot less money and exactly the same mechanical spec.

An RS500 will keep its value much better but only if you leave it in a garage.

Anybody on here had experience with the JS400 Kit from Jamsport?
I live fairly close to them and they are fitting my new exhaust to my Fiesta ST soon.
They seem to always have Focus RS up there. I believe their project car is pushing around 450bhp

The JS400 is fanatastic!

Jamsport have done a great job on the package. The only thing which comes near it, imho, is the JWR120 which has the very well developed Autotech software.

I think there project car is running a T38 turbo upgrade as well.. There's also a 440 kit available!

A friend of mine has the 400hp kit from jamsport fitted to his focus, he would whole heartedly recommend it. Especially if you like flames spitting from your pipes!

is the 500 worth the premium simple answer No!! although there is a limited build I do not believe it will hold money like the original RS500 Cosworth as there is no motorsport pedigree for the RS500 Focus it was just a branding exercise and to be frank not a very good one..

The Wrap is terrible and not very good quality I know a few people who have had it redone three times now and it still is not right.

personally if you want an investment buy the RS500 Cosworth if you want an unusual Focus that will not generate the interest of the Cossie then get the RS500 Focus but personally I would go for a std car in a colour of my choice and get the Jamsport conversion done this will give you the best value for money
