Hi Guys
The sx is off to Blackpool on teusday for leather, carpet and hood retrim, it has what i would describe as a shade of bottle green for the leather. Although green is ok as a colour its not one that i would choose so as i have the opportunity to play with some colours i need to know if i do change the colour will i be slaped on the wrist for doing so.
While the dash is removed for the retrim is there anything else that i should look at or change from a maintenance piont of view.

Regards Chappers

In my view it's your car, you can it have whatever colour you like! Bottle green doesn't sound like the nicest interior anyway. Some people might say that changing from original may make it less saleable but something neutral like cream might actually make it more saleable??

Look at it this way - if it had been you buying it new you could have had it any colour you wanted - you're just taking that option a bit later on!

They look lovely...How much did it cost for a re-trim..I had a quote for £600 the pair and even though its dear iam considering it as i would like to keep originals in and i want them black with red piping...Do the seats have to be unbolted from underneath the car or do they come off the runners?..I do intend doing the carpet myself and re-covering the door cards and rear trim panels..Also do the seat belt floor fixings have a bolt into the floor only or is there a nut on the other side?..Cheers..Ziga

I just had the seats done as the rest of the interior was fine - took the trimmers ages to get the colour matched but they managed it in the end.

£600 for the seats sounds pretty good. Most of the quotes I had were about £7-800. They are unbolted from underneath the car - 4 bolts each side - only takes 5 mins. Never taken the seat belts out so can't help with that one I'm afraid.

Hi Carob..Looking at your dash i cant see any stiching on the leather..Are they stiched normally?.. Mine is and i was going to get that and the centre console done with the seats but yours looks nice and tidy so maybe i could re-cover them bits myself..Cheers..Ziga

The seats are indeed nut'n'bolt jobs (usually come out easily enough); the seatbelts are bolted into captive nuts (Nylocs welded to the chassis). Sadly the bolts are usually corroded to hell and may well trash the Nylocs on the way out. If the chassis plates are sh@gged the nuts will rip out of the plate and you're into metal-bashing territory. Or you may be lucky wink

When D&C did my carpets the seat bolts were well rusted under the car. They buzzed them off with an angle grinder and put new ones on when refitting.

Told me they do that pretty much all the time now as it saves time and heart ache!
