M6....which is best? Unlike Harry Hill I don't want them to fight (!) so I thought I would ask you guys. I've been watching both these great cars come down in price over the last few months and they're in budget for me. I know the M is more cost wise all round and is 'more' car for that extra cost over the 650i but the 650i just seems really good value right now ( although I do realise they both have further to fall...price of petrol big gas guzzlers etc)...I would really appreciate input especially from any owners of either car. Thanks in anticipation.

Hiya

Still bit too vague of a question!

Do you want the Magic of an M car and all the associated increase in performance and feel ? or
Do you want a more relaxed cruiser that has a respectable turn of speed when needed?

Cheers, Dennis!

My 650i is pretty quick. I used to have a z3mc and it seems at least as quick as that. I can only think the m6 would be savage and I would love one!

They are very different beasts. i have owned a 645Ci,driven the 650i and have an M6 ( all coupes).
I personally love the massive power of the V10 and its ability to rev to 8250...is an unearthly thing if you can oped it up. OTOH. it is simply brutal on fuel consumption. The V8s are nice, but the M6 is something special. My only suggestion is to try them both and see what works for you...both great cars.

I have a 550i (same engine as the 650) and its a great car/engine. Fast enough in the real world TBH and seems so far to be reasonable to run inc fuel at around 23/4 mpg average. Not driven the M6 but chased a few M5's in my old Ro and they are serious bits of kit when on the boil but having looked into it they also require deep pockets (it is a entry level supercar though). IMHO if you are not bothered about fuel and running costs then go M6 as I doubt we will see big NA V10's anymore so grab it while you can.

I like the M6 just for the speciality of it. The last of the V10 engines as well I think?

As others have said, all comes back to what is important to you. I had the ability to choose either and went 650i as it looks a bit more understated, I prefer the V8 sound and also could not get on with the SMG box. Performace wise, the 650i is fine but significantly slower than the M6 if you drive that hard. If you are going to a track then M6 offers a lot more, if not, the 650 is far easier to live with and a far more sensible financial proposition.

Fuel bills on the M6 are about 35% higher and bank on service costs being 2 to 3 times higher on the M6 with items like front discs being a very unpleasant bill. It's the old story of mainetenance costs being related to what were originally expensive cars. Either way they are a great choice and make sure you find an M6 with the full merino interior if you go that route as the dashboard leather looks great.

When I bought mine I knew if i'd bought the 650 i'd always regret not getting the M6. Having now had my M6 for 1 1/2 years I'm totally happy with it. Having said that (& reason for post); cabin space is tight, so if you're interested, mine might be for sale. The rear seats are fine for short journeys, but both my kids require car seats, which just eat space, so we go everywhere in my wife's car - thus the M6 isn't used.

I have two possible routes:

1: sell M6 (which I vowed to keep forever) or
2: get another car (4x4) & keep M6 in garage for when kids get older!

There's a pic of the M6 in my profile, let me know if interested.
