Evening!

Just wondering if anyone has done a similar route?

We're doing two weeks in California in April of this year.
Flying into LA, driving across to LV and then up to SF where we fly back to the UK.

The drive from LV to SF in April means that we won't be able to go over the mountains and through Yosemite so we're going to have to skirt around the bottom. At the moment we have given ourselves 2 days to make this drive and are thinking of going across to the Pacific Coast highway and stopping off somewhere like Santa Barbara or Carmel.

Just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations?

The LA part of the trip we're looking at a Hotel just outside of Santa Monica called the Hotel Angeleno.
The problem with that is it's not really near anything else on a night time. The budget is a bit tight say £500 for 4 nights, does anyone know a decent spot in Santa Monica / West Hollywood that would be better for a similar price?

Been looking at priceline but we can't pick up anything we want for the bargain price we want lol

Any info appreciated.

We're doing the same trip for our honeymoney in June over 3weeks.
I cant help with the alt route as the roads will be open for us. We've allowed 3 stop overs between LV and SF, 1 night in Death Vally and 2 nights in Yosemite.

Reading that back, im not sure i've helped at all really...

We're doing a similar trip at the end of feb for our honeymoon (seems to be the in thing to do!) we fly to SF then drive to LA and then to LV before flying back from there. We only have 2 weeks though frown

We are starting to sort out the details now will watch this with interest!

On a side note, I don't seem to be able to get an interesting car from Hertz for our dates/route which I'm gutted about!

We're down for an SUV now, will try to blag a free upgrade to something like a convertable when we land.

We did the trip a few years ago, although we missed Vegas off at the last minute (doctor's orders due to a bad back). Pity you'll be missing Yosemite as it does take your breath away. On the trip down from San Francisco back to LA, we stayed at The Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo. Built by a trucker in the fifties, every room is unique and it's the oddest place I've ever stayed. Carmel is very quaint, if not a little dull. A lot of antique shops if you know what I mean.
