I've been pondering for a while now, and would value any imput from the crew. Not wanting to get into any brand snobbery blah blah!.. but I do think this is a handsome piece....less is more and all that...!

guaranteed genuine, with authentic buckle and recent manufactures service, decent feedback rating from the seller too

Well it's certainly a very classy piece.

The question is do you like it enough to part with the money & do you think you'll wear it enough to justify the expenditure once bought. For me, a watch like that would be pretty well black tie events only, but your view may be different.

Beautiful watch and there's certainly worse places to tie up a few quid.
The money could always be unlocked from that one if you fall out of love with it.

Classic dress watches seem to grow old gracefully with you.
Sports watches especially in SS seem to be odd when worn by older gentlemen?

Oi! I'm only forty firkin four...hehe

but as you suggest one would be unlikely to 'catch a cold' with this...it should never depreciate below the 5k mark and can only realy appreciate in value.

It's a lovely watch.
Not having any ideas on Pateks, is the price realistic?
It's good to have had a recent service (I can't imagine they're cheap!).

You'll have to explain to me why that is better than the Citizen Eco-drive that looks exactly the same. biggrin Or the IWC Portofino that has a similar style. Or the one in Argos that would look the same if you removed the second hand with a pair of tweezers.

it's the sort of thing that'll age nicely with you, needs considering as your starting to get on a bit . . .

If you got 2/3rds your money back if you needed to sell quickly , how bad would that be?
You've owned and had pleasure from one of the worlds finest timepieces, all be it not an especially rare or complicated one.

How about for starters, the PP is made of solid gold....
Ok, but that doesn't explain why all PPs are expensive.

Now that is a nice watch for special occasions perhaps.

If you like it enough to wear it, buy it.

Right, I'll say it:

I dislike it. Gold case with a gold face is a no no for me.

Much much more elegant stuff out there for that sort of cash.

I say this as younger man than you OP.

Like everyone always says though, if you like it, buy it. I doubt you will lose out if you decide to sell it in a few years time.

But you could say that about a number of brands.

If that really is the case then it seems a bit of a no-brainer to me. If you like it that much, can afford it and can justify to yourself that you'll get enough wrist time for the money (however much time that is) then there doesn't appear to be a reason why you shouldn't go for it.

Very smart looking watch by the way, never really 'got' the minimal style of wristwatch myself until recently.

It's not really my cup of tea ... If you're after a dress watch with style for £5K, I'd be looking at the JLC Reverso range. This is the Reverso Grande Date with 8 day power reserve, which is currently up for sale at £4,950:
